Kind of agree that we are not good with youngsters. 1. We rely too much on the “good old boys, who never let us down” so limited chances for youngsters. 2. When given a chance the pressures are immense and they are dropped like a stone with one mistake. We need to be braver with our youngsters and really look after their development. Miley looks a gem, West Ham fans were gutted when Ashby left, Kuol is going backwards, Anderson needs game time. I would suggest that the person in charge of youth development is more important or at least equal to the 1st team coach. Bringing these kids through could save £50+ million every time.

@@kete3690 Yeah much agreed look at Arseanl with with Martinelli and Saka they kept on playing them a little here and there a few minutes here a few minutes there . Maybe a start here and one or two against the unform sides . That's how they going to grow also they send Kuol to a defensive team that play rugby rather then football. Fair play made a good call with Minteh sending him to Feynoord. Before we got Kuol Barca wanted him lol 😆 And Ashby looks like a real talent with real pace and he's a top crosser of the ball . No point signing these young stars if they not going to play and then that's why they have no resale value . The guy in charge of these calls needs to drop the doughnuts and maybe have a plan no one is saying start them .

I completely understand if we don't spend much more because of ffp. I trust the owners to look after the club in every respect. My big concern though is unless we sign 3 or 4 players a LB CB and RW at minimum then we will probably finish top 8 at best and no chance of doing much in the cups cos we just don't have the depth. Then next summer we would really struggle to hold onto Bruno Isak Botman and Co. Feel like we need to go for it now when we have champs league to attract players.

FFP will hinder any progress. The whole situation is designed to prevent any newly wealthy club from crashing the glass ceiling. Such a shame, because I have a soft spot for Newcastle, as I lived in the city for some time. I'm an Everton fan, and my club is ruined due to FFP. We have investment, and money available, but can't spend it, due to the unfair nature of FFP. Good luck to Newcastle in your pursuit of success.

Great to see you back, marra. There’s a lot of ‘shit housing’ going on with the transfers - way more than what goes on on the pitch. That said, FFP is a nightmare for us. The other clubs who inherited big money had a ball before FFP clamped down but we have no such honeymoon. We shall, as always, wait and see.

Miley looks one hell of a player! He’s tall, got really good vision and has really good technical ability. The shot at Chelsea was brilliant and his pass for the goal yesterday was delightful. I see him being a top player for us one day. Regarding transfers I’m convinced this is Eddie Howe keeping his cards close to his chest. He’ll never tell the media the actual budget or if deals really are close or not. He was saying the same thing before then Isak came out of nowhere, besides most deals get done in the last week of the window anyway. Eddies just being coy with the media, no need to panic

This is why in all that emotion of making the Champions League the stark reality of what it might do to us has been lost in the wave of euphoria. We are about a year or two ahead of where we should really be as a club and Eddie Howe could become a casualty of his own success. Newcastle are about 4 or 5 players away from a side who could mount a serious challenge this season. They just don't have the money available due to FFP, although I was under the impression we could spend around 500 million before it became a problem due to the years of Ashley's non investment. That being said, there needs to be at least 4 quality signings brought in that are better than what we have or the team will definitely struggle with all the extra games next season. Newcastle cannot go out and spend best part of 60 million on a player in Tonali then expect him to play alongside the mighty Jacob Murphy! You don't buy a Lamborghini then line it up beside Skoda's, you have to build sides around players like Tonali. Towards the end of last season we were starting to get found out with the high intensity finally catching up with and burning out the squad. You cannot play like that every game and Eddie is going to have to come up with different formations because the 4-3-3 was getting sussed out as well. I think fans might have to temper their expectations next season because it could be a painful one where regression might be on the horizon. That is not being negative but it will be some ask to think that squad can match last season's heroics with all those extra matches and the likes of Almiron squandering chances in front of goal. If we have largely the same squad as last campaign we will backslide a bit because what they achieved will not be replicated without it being strengthened significantly. I just hope the fans don't turn if we get off to a bad start because it is a tough opening for Newcastle and Eddie and the players drown under the weight of expectation!

Longsticks was rancid today. I know it means nowt, ‘minutes in the legs’ and all that, but I didn’t think it was physically possible for him to have a performance as bad as that in him. Hopefully we find a way to get a couple more through the door. There’s a weird irony at the moment in our Saudi overlords helping our rivals by overpaying for their deadwood which is actually putting us at a big disadvantage in terms of expenditure in comparison to theirs. I have faith, but it’s a weird time for football when you look at the bigger picture. Still looking forward to the season though, it’ll be a fun ride.

I disagree with your verdict on Maxi. He was awesome. Can't you see what Howe was doing? He was out of position first half and should have easily had 2 assists still if it wasn't for poor finishing. Maybe even a goal. Then 2nd half Maxi being out on the left, he changed the game. Howe is setting his style of play up to have a partner to play with....just look deeper and Howe knows what he is doing with Maxi. Yes I'm aware of the 'exit' links but I don't believe them one bit. It's total BS. £55m + £2m signing on & £500,000 agent fees = £57.5m - Amortised over 6 yrs = £11.5m this season & each seaon of the 6 yr contract. The budget is £75m to remain within FFP limits - The club has £75-11.5 = £63,5m. The reason signings have not been made has nothing to do with finances.

If FFP is such an issue then it'll really annoy me to sell ASM for Barnes. I consider Maxi a more talented player. If he had to be sold to finance a player that really improves us, then fine, but for Barnes? I don't get it.
