The strange thing is we know exactly what the financial situation was in that year 1 of the last 3 year PSR cycle. The revenue was £130m, we spent £120m on Willock, Bruno, Burn, Trippier and Wood, we made the largest loss on the 3 year cycle in that year because of the low income. This year our income is expected to be £300m, that came from an interview with Eales, so that’s an extra £180m, around £70m in losses dropped off the 3 year cycle too. To just break even we could spent £250m based on the loses we can accrue and the increased revenue. Obviously that’s a simplistic view as our player purchases were spread over 5 years so the amount we pay out on player fees has increased by about £40-50m a year since pre takeover. There’s also the higher wage bill with generally higher wages being spent on better players than before the takeover, also players like Bruno, Joelinton and Gordon getting big new contracts. I understand that all eats into to the £250m I quoted earlier but we are talking about an extra £30-40m in wages. So if the revenue has increased as much as Eales claimed (meaning an extra £170-180m in revenue on the 3 year cycle) and £70m in losses dropped off the 3 year cycle then where has that money gone? I can accept that at a push an extra £100m is being spent each year on wages and player amortisation but that still leaves a huge chunk of cash unaccounted. I know that the new UEFA squad cost rules only allow you to spend 70% of revenue (so based on £300m that’s £210m), maybe this is the issue. However, if you aren’t in Europe you can spend 85% which is £255m. The reality is we’d like to be in Europe but we aren’t, there’s also a chance that if we don’t spend we won’t get there so we could be restricting our spending for nothing. If is is the UEFA SCR that’s causing us problems I’d like the club to be honest and explain this as the current PSR excuse doesn’t make sense based on the clubs accounts that we can all look at.

I was also under the impression that our turnover would be significantly increased at the start of this PSR year due to large sponsorship deals notably Adidas and Sela as well as Stack revenue.

It really does make you sick PSR. The big clubs are never under pressure to sell their big players as they’re already established at the top end of the league with big sponsors/income. Yet clubs who want to get there now have to jump over a range of hurdles which seem to get bigger each time you clear the one before.

The reason we dont have £50 mil to spend is because somebody has been spending too much money on sweets. This short term long term investment argument seems to suggest NUFC have to buy good players for their short term sale value not their medium term usefulness to the teams ability to stay in Champions League places year after year

@davidwebster59465 күн бұрын
Your not understanding how the costs are calculated You don't just pay all the transfer fee and that's it done. The costs are amortised over the length of their contracts so actually we are still paying off the likes of Gordon, Botman, Isak etc every season. We also bought Vlachodimos for £20m and Osula for £15m. With Hall for £35m that's £70m spent just on transfer fees using your logic
@craighope_dailymail5 күн бұрын
And I know that is what fans want to believe. But as I explained, PSR is there for every club, they all have to make the numbers work. Newcastle are no different - "PSR pressures" will never go away. Could they spend £50m on a player in January? Yes. Would they then have to sell someone (even if a smaller sale) to allow that deal to work? Yes, I believe so.

As I understand it, clubs are allowed to lose £105million over a rolling 3 year period on outgoings including transfer fees and wages but surely these rules should take into account debt otherwise what is the point of them. Why are they called profit and sustainability rules but you can be in millions in debt and still be allowed to spend. If these rules must continue then the PL must do it properly by banning clubs with over £105million in total debt from spending a penny until the debt is cleared. There would be no need for stupid fines or points deductions as a transfer/wages embargo would be a fitting punishment.

40-50M spends are spread over contract lengths. So that's 8-10M per year + wages over a five year deal. Also, sales come straight off the year a player is sold so if we sell a player for 20M we move into a positive situation; that is, we have actually made a profit. That's how I understand it.

Craig, PSR is a joke and we all know why it exists. Something really does need to change and if it takes a legal challenge from Villa, us or somewhere else then so be it. Anti-competition, Protectionism, Restraint of Trade and Restrictive Practise are not areas I'm expert in but I do know the Law of England and Wales must be adhered to. And here's a good point (hopefully). The natural body process means that there comes a time when because of the ageing process players need to be replaced. That's not the fault of any football club, it's just the way it is. And replacements don't come cheap. But that's going to hinder our development of other areas of the squad which we need to improve to become more competitive. We're supposed to be 'the richest club in the world's and all that jazz. But in reality we're one of 2 clubs in particular that are hit by the current regulations which are clearly not fair and are unfit for purpose. How on earth are we supposed to fulfill our potential with such a skewed set of rules. Our Chairman can be totally believed when he says our ambition is to be 'number 1'. But how can we start advancing to that level with the current regulations holding us back ? It's just plain old-fashioned wrong and the sooner someone takes action to remedy the situation the better. Liverpool had a couple of decades in the sunshine, then Man U and Man City haven't done too badly recently. And then there's good old Arsenal and Chelsea (and not too long ago Clough's Forest and Kendall's Everton). What's wrong with a bit of sunshine in the lives of Newcastle United fans. We haven't won anything domestically for 70 years and nothing at all for 56 years. Howay man ; as the title of an older song says, something better change !!!

Buy them for a Saudi team, sell them to Newcastle for a pound. Buy them for a Saudi team & loan them straight back to Newcastle because (they want to stay in the Premier League). In addition, there’s nothing to stop a Saudi based business paying Newcastle United a £300 million appearance fee to play one football match preseason. Play three of them in a tournament and there you go, we are sorted. All this is doing is working within the existing rules that everyone else seems to use to their benefit, but we don’t even bother trying to push the boundaries.

Why is it that a few clubs, the top six as they are known, feel that they are entitled to have all the best players? It isn't just a question of finance clearly, although that is of some relevance naturally. It is just that they feel entitled. This has to come to an end otherwise there is no point in having a 20 team Premier League.

I would say that we spent near £100m in January 2022, that money then drops out of the 3-year accounting, which should be meaningful. I'm not expecting much activity in January. It is a hard time to buy as mentioned, I expect them to do a lot of finger-crossing regarding injuries. I think they want to work out a way to avoid buying a RW until the summer. I don't see them buying a striker, or else what is William Osula for? They must have seen something from the lad and he's now got several months of training under his belt, they'd be buying back up to Isak as it is, which is surely what Osula is for assuming Wilson doesn't get fit. If they do business in January I'd expect it to be an RCB that they wanted in the summer. Even then I can see them crossing their fingers on Schar, when Botman is back they'd consider playing an LCB on the right to get to the summer. Perhaps a pre-contract agreement for Guehi if Howe still wants him? I bet Steve Parish will demand 40m just so he doesn't lose face if we try to get him in January. Lastly, I'm beginning to wonder if PSR is going to have a deflationary effect on transfer fees. We paid 60m or thereabouts for Isak in the summer of 2022, we'd want double that if we sold him while still under multi-year contract, but so few clubs could actually pay that now, simply because of PSR. Perhaps Isak is a bad example, but overall I think fees will drop.

A way to go is to use the Saudi League and get teams to overpay for the players we are selling. The EPL will try to stop this with the fair market value test, but arguing what a buyer is willing to pay for an asset is tough for the league. We then get litigious and take Masters to court. For starters we have two top flight international keepers in Dubravka and our Greek star. There is at least 30 million there.

I thought this wasnt how psr worked? I thought it was on like a few year cycle so all the money we spent on players like isak may have cleared up by now so were free to spend a bit. What im hearing here is that nobody seems to know exactly how this works and that we supposedly make so little as a club that even with clear books wed need to sell just to bring anyone of any value in? And then if we dont make the champions league (which to do you need to bring in good players that cost money) we have to then be excited about selling our best players just to replace them with equivalent ones and be in the same position? Something here is not adding up in my opinion and it sounds like were just running on a treadmill. Our owners need to be up front with us and decide whether we want to be winners or a farm club. After amanda leaving and the pif talking about focusing less on overseas investments im left wondering if they are just trying to save face and dont care as much to invest now after realizing its not gonna be so easy.

No, the Isak deal is spread over the length of his contract. So his fee won’t clear for 5 years from the point of signing. Also, it’s rolling 3 years. So 22/23/24 becomes 23/24/25.

So it's ok for the Mancs to be over £1bn in debt but we can't spend the money our owners undoubtedly have. This is just perverse logic. The Premier League seem hell bent on stopping Newcastle. All the more reason to move from SJP and build a super stadium which can massively increase our revenue.

Can we sell one of our keepers to one of the Saudi clubs for £500m? Seems fair.

You could sell two of them...

@craighope_dailymail it's a tongue in cheek comment, but in all seriousness, it's just an extrapolation of paying over the odds for our Greek Keeper. Added bonus, it would be a massive F**k you to the PSR rules.

Good video. Let’s face it the Premier league shafted Newcastle. PSR has turned into a very bad joke. Personally I wouldn’t spend a penny on this corrupt league.

Do these players really get frustrated that they haven't got a new training ground.😢 Boohoo,

Psr/ffp is horse shit. Just ruining football. Stopping ambitious clubs from building and growing.

Psr is showing just how much of a nonsense it is. We have owners capable of investing in the squad, totally transforming it, however the other clubs clearly dont want new money being invested. Re the transfer outgoings, other than the obvious players we dont want to sell who is going to want our dross on massive wages. The likes of Miggy, Murphy, Wilson (injury prone) Dubravka
