always remember to clean the filter inside the reservoir. If it"s not possible, change the reservoir after changing the fluid. A dirty filter is the main reason why the pump moans.

Mine was leaking because of the O-ring between reservoir & pump being worn out. Replaced that and the problem is gone. It just surprises me that you have two on yours. I am not sure it is the factory layout.
@CraigsDIY5 жыл бұрын
The workshop manual refers to rings plural and my pump was factory. Strange design. Maybe the smaller ring is designed to center the plastic coaxially with the alloy, while the outer one actually seals in compression with the bolts. Not sure.
@Sethorion994 жыл бұрын
Do you remember the size of the O-ring? I'm planning on replacing it to potentially resolve my whining power steering pump and Ford lists it and the reservoir as one big part.

Hi Craig, Thank you for the brillant coverage. Could you share the site url to obtian the part number and manual for Ford Mondeo. I have a Ford Mondeo Estate 2.0 2009 here but the Ford distributor here seems very reluctant to share part numbers.

Nice! Thx Craig! What pump did you get, new or recon? And where from? Do you think a teflon tape would work instead of the ring?
@CraigsDIY5 жыл бұрын
It's just from a wreckers but is younger than mine. Teflon tape might work but would be a bodge, the line fitting is not a tapered thread, it's designed to compress against the proper seal. The seal from Ford is not too expensive.

@@CraigsDIY there was no way to fix your old pump?
@janrod39745 жыл бұрын
Excellent tutorial as always, Craig. Miraculous enough, I just very recently got issues with my steering (v6 version). Is getting a bit noisy and steering influenses idling speed. Looking the problem up at forums like Talkford, there is mentioned that it's wise to replace the waterpump at the same time with PS-pump, since the 2 parts are connected. I believe that's about diesel engines. But have you considered the topic (replacing both parts) for yourself? Kind regards from the Netherlands.
@CraigsDIY5 жыл бұрын
My water pump was renewed some 100,000 km ago and it's been fine so far. It seems it's just convenient to do them together on the diesels if they're connected, no other reason? But if you're not paying a mechanic I wouldn't bother replacing a good part.

My pump was moaning horribly with the new fluid it's much better, but that's all I'll do to it, as the engine uses way too much oil and it was a 300€ car.

It is sold as a specific Ford part, try to order it. If you have Ford cars in your country you have Ford dealerships, and they will enjoy ripping you off as much as anyone else. Failing that, engineering shops should be able to offer you something similar. You could try other seals to bodge it but you'd be asking for leaks.

Yes, or any of the other applicable specs, they made a real mess of them. Read the notes in the desc.
