I'm a big Apple guy. Even so, the one short coming of the HomePods (and I have a bunch of them) is their limitation in executing shortcuts. For example, I have shortcuts set up to run my robot vacuum. Because the shortcut commands are a product of a 3rd party app I can only execute them from a device that has the app (usually iPhone or iPad). This is a bit annoying. It has been suggested that this problem could be solved by activation personal requests, but that hasn't worked. I know that shortcuts is outside the functioning of the Home app, but they are also an important part of home automation.

Hey Craig, one of my favorite automations when it comes to the HomePod is an automation that one. My daughter arrives at our high school. With whole locations on it will send my wife and I a text message letting us know that she arrived. This is very helpful, especially because she’s in the city all day

Nice video, very helpful for helping to understand the Apple smart homr ecosystem and its various uses. Its more robust than I thought, used to think only Google and Amazon preaumably had such nice features.

I think HomeKit has an inbuilt advantage for spousal approval factor, if they’re an Apple user of course, because it feels like an extension to the Apple experience as opposed to an entirely seperate thing, in a way that Alexa or SmartThings don’t. Google should have the same level of spouse approval factor for Android users, buts it’s just not as seamless

I noticed that the home app and philips hue app dotn cync properly. Some of the light names are not same as in the philips hue?

I love the Homepods and have a pair set up in my TV Room. However I have had no end of trouble with ATMOS. Through the apple tv atmos is out of sync and very annoying. When atmos is passed through to my TV apps (netflix for example), the sync is fine but buzzes and crackles. I can turn off ATMOS on the TV apps, but I can't on the Apple TV (The option is greyed out). Have you heard of these problems and have any possible solutions?

How do you do a thing before sunset or after? As far as I can see the only options are sunset, sunrise, or a fixed time.

When you select sunset there is an offset. I have an automation for my curtains that close 2 hours before sunset. Thanks for watching.

I’ll buy a HomePod when it comes with a screen. My husband doesn’t want a “smart” home so it wouldn’t be used for that. It would take over my Amazon speakers and Amazon Shows.

So after i returned mine, i tested a friend of mines homepod mini 3 years old. It worked perfectly?!.... Wtf, is it then only the old ones working and not the new ones?
