Thank you for such a perfect video. My dog has had TPLO surgery today and this has helped put me at ease as although my wonderful vet explained it fully I couldn't take it in at all as I was in a daze. This was just perfect to see so thank you for taking the time to create such a wonderful explanation.

My dog is booked in for TPLO in 2 todays time. She goes to the vet tomorrow to get a morphine type patch put on as it takes up to 12 hours to start working then she’ll have surgery the following day. I’m extremely nervous as she’s our baby but hopefully she’ll be okay and not in to much pain afterwards

Is tplo better or tta better?

Hi John, the type of treatment or surgery depends on the precise nature of the case. Generally speaking, TPLO and TTA have been considered equivalent in terms of outcome for a number of years. However, recent evidence suggests that TPLO may give a more predictable outcome. It leads to better stifle stability, resulting in reduced progression of osteoarthritis and a much lower percentage of patients showing signs of chronic pain in the long term, compared to TTA. TPLO is a longer lasting fix and recommended for dogs that still have many years left. The tta is for older dogs and dogs that don’t really move much anyway. If you can’t afford the TPLO then the tta is better then nothing but if you can afford it then get TPLO 100%

I need to schedule my GSD TPLO surgery, however I work full time and do not have 2 weeks of PTO to be home. She is crate trained, however how often should I come home to let her out and give meds? Not sure what the best solution is for me

Hi Lisa, we'd suggest talking to your vets about your dog's post-op requirements. They'll be able to provide a recovery exercise plan, and advise how often to give any medications which will help you to plan and make any arrangements. We hope the surgery and recovery goes well.
