These are the Crank Brothers Mallet E's and I found it a little strange that the instructions stated that one clip would have two dots and the other clip would be plain. I was to use that information to determine if I wanted 15 degree release or a 20 degree release. However, my clips had two Rs on one clip and two Ls on the other. No dots at all. So I went to the Internet and found some youtube videos showing the setup of these pedals and clips, and they all had dots! What the heck. I finally found an article on the Crank Brothers website that showed the Rs and Ls...
www.crankbrothers.com/blogs/n...
I can only assume the changed to Rs and Ls to make it easier... and the instructions are still out of date. Anyway... maybe this will help someone.

I'm having an absolute nightmare, switched from my HT SX pedals to crankbrothers DH and clipping in is a nightmare, I wore the cleats down, tried different shims and even the shoe sheilds. On the verge of giving up to be honest and going back to my ht which were a joy to clip into.

Bought the same exact shoes and pedals, lowering the pins makes a huge difference on the toe side as far as it’s much easier to clip in, I also used the shim. I tried them r for right l for left and vice versa and hard to tell a difference, either way it’s not easy to unclip which is expected when they’re new

Any thoughts on why I can’t get my shoe out of the pedal? I have the same clips with no dots, rose colored ones shown in the video. I turn my foot at over 20 degrees too. Shimano shoes.

I have the same shoes like you and I run one spacer too. But for me they feel better without the spacer but there would be a tiny gap between the cleat and the shoe sole. With the spacer there is a gap between the pedal and my shoe. Do you have any idea how i could fix that or if I could run the cleats without the spacer?

Cracked a couple of ribs when a huge seesaw on our trails refused to go down quick enough. Wish I had Crank Bros then, but was riding XTR SPD's. I toppled towards the clipped in side from 8 feet up. 2 years on Crank Bros and never missed a panic release.

@@bimfred dont bother mate just adjust so that the cleats are slightly curved, and this not only helps your joints if like most people you walk with your legs a little splayed and it also i find lowers the angle and is much easier to get out and avoids accidental clip outs going inward

It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

@koreysarantopoulos3170

The cleats that have L’s and R’s are not reversible for different release degree angle. They changed to the L/R design because it forces you to buy new cleats from them if you want a different release angle, instead of using the same cleat. It was a was for them to make more money.
@phyzz88

with the R's and the L's you can still swap them to get a 20 degree release angle. just bought them and it's even stated in the manual that comes with it.

You just spent nearly six minutes making a clip that could have been done in two sentences. L on left shoe = 15 degrees. L on right shoe = 20 degrees.
