Thank you, I was having the same issue and thought it was the fuel pump this vid sent me towards the cap and rotor. Another thing that helped me was that my spark plugs were black and dry meaning that I had a rich fuel mix so I doubted that it was the pump.

The main issue with these 4.3s is the two point connector plug that goes to the ignition coil, wiggle it or use a zip tie and fasted down the two wires real tight to the couple, and it will start, what happens is it gets loose or burnt at the terminal.
@LivetofishOutboardRepair4 ай бұрын
@RockymountainRobert…. Thanks for the tip. I’m sure your right that the coil connection is weak point since it’s just one coil for all six cylinders and if the connection is loose or corroded will cause random misfires or complete loss of spark. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

My '07 Sierra has the 4.3 and is doing the exact same thing. It wouldn't start this morning (at least it did me the favor of waiting until I got home last night). It's been missing for the past 2-3 weeks and the check engine light has been coming on and off intermittently. The rotor and cap were absolutely fried when my buddy replaced them for me around 5 years ago (looked like they'd seen well over 100k), so hopefully that's the problem. My back and hands are riddled with arthritis, but I think I have enough in the ole tank to do this much before dropping a big piece of change into the mechanic's pocket. Funny thing is it only had around 35,000 on the odometer last time they were changed, and I'm at just under 55k now, so I'm thinking they may well be the culprits.
@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
Greg J. Green … Sounds like you’ve got a good handle on it. Mine even had spark on all cylinders but it was just to weak to get it to fire. The cap and rotor were definitely the issue. If you didn’t use OEM replacement parts for the cap and rotor you’re probably going to need to replace them. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting.

@@LivetofishOutboardRepair you bet. I changed them out this afternoon, still won't start. My back and hands are absolutely killing me tonight. Did all I could, so I had AAA haul it to the shop a couple hours ago. I like the truck, it's one of the last with a manual transmission, but it's been nickel and diming me to death. Forgot to add that they didn't have Delco in stock, so I went with aftermarket (can't remember which). I'm going to be real pissed at myself if it turns out being the problem but foiled by inferior parts. Just looked in the recycling bin, the cap is made by Standard and the rotor is Blue Streak by Standard, have no idea as to their quality or reputation.

Greg J. Green … I’m so sorry to hear that. I also suffer from arthritis in my hands and back. I know how difficult it is to work when your in pain. Did you check for spark at the coil? If your coil is weak you might just need to replace it.

@@LivetofishOutboardRepair no, my hands couldn't go any further, and I need it back soon as possible , so I said to heck with it. Just got a call from my mechanic, the coil was indeed out, along with the ignition module. The module went out once before, don't know why I didn't think of that. Guess I'm looking at around $800. What would cause a the van to turn over, stop and backfire in the manifold? When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump engage. I do not small gas, like flooding....
@LivetofishOutboardRepair2 жыл бұрын
It could be an ignition issue or a timing issue. Poor spark from a weak coil or bad cap and rotor. Sounds like your getting fuel from the backfire but you could test the fuel pump like I did in the video to rule it out. Also there is a fuel regulator located inside the intake manifold. If this goes bad it would be seen from the fuel pump test gage leaking down below 15 lbs within 5 minutes. I also discuss and show this in the video. Good luck. I hope you find your problem.

Mine having this issues, cap and rotor not the best shape but the scanner commands 0 timing advance, not sure what thats about
@LivetofishOutboardRepair7 ай бұрын
@rylandallas9907…. This engine’s distributor is not adjustable for the timing. It must be set in the exact position as when it was removed. Mark the rotor, distributer and block to make sure it’s installed correctly. There are many videos out there showing how to install it correctly. In my video the problem was pretty unclear since I had spark and fuel. If you spray starting fluid into the intake and it starts you know the problem is most likely related to spider fuel injection system or PCM not communicating with the injectors. Anyway good luck and thanks for watching and commenting.

Best friend…. I live in Michigan so I do get cold wet weather here quite a bit. I don’t seem to have the problems that you’re having. However, I do understand it with the trucks. You might want to take a look at that if you have a truck, since mine is a Van heater hoses run differently.

@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
Geo M… the motor basically needs three things to start. Compression, good Spark and Fuel. My problem was weak spark. All cylinders were firing but because the spark was so weak it wasn’t igniting the compressed fuel/air mixture. Replacing the worn out cap and router produced a much stronger spark to each cylinder and she fired right up. I hope this helps

ok so exactly the same issues and resolve (new cap+rotor) ran for about 1 min and stopped , now will run some times but mostly still crank but no fire. have both fuel and spark very confused.
@LivetofishOutboardRepair2 жыл бұрын
Clayton Smith… I would disconnect your coil wire and check to see if you are getting a yellow or blue spark jumping across the connector from the coil. If it’s yellow that’s indicative of a weak Spark. Yellow would be weak and not enough to fire the cylinders. Also, did you check your fuel pressure? I show in the video how to check fuel pressure and also using the gage to do a leakdown test on the fuel regulator. If the pressure drops below 45 lbs within 3 minutes your fuel regulator is bad. The fuel regulator is located under the intake manifold and would need replaced if it fails this test.

@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
AImikelipscomb…. I would verify the fuel pressure because if you don’t have enough pressure your fuel injectors will not fire. Start with that and if your pressure is good then change the cap. If the inside of the cap has burn marks or cracks across the spark channels that will affect the timing and cause starting problems.

tha Kidd La … I suppose you are referring to the fuel pressure. If so, that may be due to the accuracy of the gage.
