Hi Marty, There does appear to be differences between the tube axles right up to 1980. See John Twist /University Motors KZbin video 021 MG Tech /MGB on rear axles (albeit 17 years ago). He says the wire wheel axles are slightly shorter for wire wheels with corresponding shorter drive shafts. I am aware that from time to time these axles have been swapped around. He made the point again when restoring/putting together more recently a chrome MGBGT for his daughter which had steel wheels - he found the axle to be a wire wheel type & rather than change it, fitted spacers on the drums with extended studs in order to fit the wheels with the necessary clearances.The Moss catalogue on the rear axle identifies the different components & assemblies whether they be for chrome or steel wheels. Cheers, Charles

As usual thanks for the info Charles, opened a bit of a "can of worms" here, luckily, I bought a new half shaft a few years back but never used it, so when I found the installed one worn, I had a replacement. I think it was a lucky mistake because the MGBGT I was going to install the half shaft into was a banjo axle, hence the reason I didn't use it. I'll actually have to go and measure my axle now to confirm it is a steel wheel axle, this might be a wire wheel axle with a steel wheel hub on it, however with the wire wheel axle half shaft being shorter, I doubt that the new half shaft I have would have fitted had the half shaft been for a steel wheel axle. Is nothing straight forward........🤔

Looks a good kit. Probably be a bit overkill for mine but understand why your doing it. I wondered like someone else said about it being the caliper for the other side but guess you then have the handbrake issue. Strange

Hi Stu, You and the other gent appear to be correct, despite the parts coming out of the bags they came out of it appears the parts did get a bit mixed up, however when assembled correctly there is only approximately 0.019 thou clearance between the leaf spring and the handbrake bracket, this is being investigated further by the supplier, nothing heard as of yet, however Frontline Developments have not shied away from anything they've been great and very supportive. They'll come up with some sort of solution.

@CrapToCream I had it before when I was messing about with mini front callipers right and left were as you stood in front of the car so the left was right and vise versa. Very confusing. I'm sure there sort you a solution by the sounds of it. 👍

@@stusoldcars4248 Hi you looking to be progressing well, just watch the oil cooler pipe and the location of said pipe in relationship to the dizzy, might need to move it down a bit towards the chassis rail 👍had the same problem myself, difficult with the dizzy in place.

@CrapToCream I'll bear it in mind. Will be one of the next things to fit. 👍

Hi Marty, I have looked at Moss with their offerings for rear drum to disc conversions from Frontline. There would appear to be different kits for bolt on wheels as compared with wires. Certainly the calipers are very different. I see you have Rostyle wheels for this car which suggests bolt ons unless i am missing something or totally misunderstood. Cheers,Charles

Hi Charles, Spot on as usual, yes this MGB (Rose) has rostyles, the other MGB (MIllie) has wires. The supplier, the Australian branch of Frontline has acknowledged the issue, something to do with the latest caliper design supplied to them being different. Communication with Frontline has been exceptional, David the gent I'm dealing with assures me I'll have a solution to the problem later on today Perth time. Apparently, there is 80mm difference between certain axel designs, I'm assuming this is banjo v tube and not wires V bolt on, I've never done a conversion from wires to bolt on or visa-versa so I'm not sure if there is a difference in axle length between these two designs, I would have thought not, the half-shaft parts numbers are the same.

Have you just got the calipers on the wrong sides?
@CrapToCream19 күн бұрын
@@minimonte1 The kit came with the caliper bags marked left and right, that’s how I installed them. Interesting thought though, I’ll offer the left caliper to the right bracket and see if that looks any better. Every time I put the bleed nipple on the top the hand brake bracket hits the leaf spring. I’ll contact the supplier tomorrow and see what he’s got to say. Thanks for the comment, appreciated 👍👍

Looks like you are on the money, looks like the parts were sent in the wrong bags, no big deal, however I do have another small problem which is being looked into, I only have 0.019 thou clearance between the spring and the handbrake bracket, supplier is looking into the issue, they'll resolve it, great business to deal with.
