As always, you put the smack down on them. Thanks for letting me tag along, I went fishing last weekend. First time in over a year, fractured my back on the job. Just was not able to get out, but I rode with my best friend. His first time ever, I paid for everything, and this guy was ready to go after a hour. But,,,, I caught my first two Crappies "EVER"!

Thank you. Sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you recover soon. Glad to hear you got you a couple. You probably found some pretty good areas they like. Hope you catch some good ones soon 😁. Sometimes it it's hard to wait on them to bite but definitely worth it when they start feeding. 😊

@FishYanker THANKS, and "that", I know. My Friend just wasn't willing to move, and then move, and then "move"! I know that you have to move and search. But I'm telling you, from watching you and a few of my other guys. "I" knew what to do to catch them, my first two "EVER'RRRRRR"! THANK YOU, for your teachings, and schooling, because I knew exactly what to do.

Last time I was home, I took my grandchildren fishing and they caught eight or nine big old slab bluegill. Those children had a blast that was their first showing of real fishing trip. I can’t wait to teach them how to catch.

My lake hasnt had an 11-12" crappie come out in 21/2yrs, but 2yrs previous you catch a limit almost daily in the spring and fall, lately fish are 8-9 or smaller catch 30 to get 10 keepers
@FishYanker7 күн бұрын
Wow 😳 that ain't no good. Is it a big lake/reservoir.?
@tonyknott37897 күн бұрын
@FishYanker man made lake originally I think it was to feed a main canal in our area many, many years ago Miami Erie canal in west central Ohio
@FishYanker6 күн бұрын
I think I would concentrate on some of the good spots on the west to north west sides of the lake. The water starts cooling down a lot as our temperatures change. The bait fish will head to the warmest part of the lake and so will the fish to feed on them. When it gets really cold even shallow areas become really heavy with shad. if you noticed shad flipping on top after fishing for a little while in certain areas I would fish these areas for Crappie because crappie should be close to them. My favorite time to fish my reservoirs is when the water gets real cold and the shad move in the shallows. It's almost always on the west side of the lake for my locations. just because the sun warms it up quicker, so it ends up being just a few degrees warmer than the rest of the lake. If the fish can ever get the shad trapped in a creek or cove, they will feed on them all winter.
@tonyknott37896 күн бұрын
@FishYanker yes sir, shad activity has peaked here, still some activity. I've been fishing amongst them shad on this lake for bout 3-4 weeks on top of the water and on a high bank you could actually see them in the big balls/school, and for that many weeks fishing for crappies, only caught lrgmouth bass and channel catfish, yesterday I did catch a couple small crappie on a beetlespin, along the bank in about 13-15" of water, I was fishing creek channel feeding the lake, working fallen trees and top, and some brush close to the bank, some shallow flats and even the deep part of the channel weather as been overcast on/off rain, next day or so cold front pushing in
@FishYanker5 күн бұрын
Yes sir. maybe that cold front pushing in will activate the bigger crappie to bite. Sometimes I do real good before a front. Sometimes during the front and sometimes after, just depends on what they want to do I guess. I just keep following the shad all the way through to spring if I can.

I live in CO and I want to catch these fish. I'm not good at baitcast. I only have spin reel and spincast. Any tips?
@FishYanker13 күн бұрын
A beetle spin is a quick way to locate crappie. Fisher real slow and change the bait from a grub to a Bobby Garland jig. And you can add a minow or crappie bites, works great. I have a lot of beetle spin fishing videos. You can also use the jig and bobber and do steady pulls and stops. A couple feet at a time works pretty good to search for Crappie. Once you catch a crappie focus on that area and fish it slower. You will usually pick up some more close by.

So when you use a bobber with the jig head. do you just let it sit ? or are you jigging it and working it back to the boat ?
@FishYanker15 күн бұрын
You can let it sit for a few seconds then work it a little bit. But take your time and go slow.
@outdoorsandin193615 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for your reply! Transitioning from bass to crappie for the season and i’m struggling! Can see them on my active target and can’t catch a thing feel like a fool lol
@FishYanker14 күн бұрын
Crappie are super picky feeders. If you can get the first one to bite, the splashing from catching the fish, will usually draw attention and others in the area will join in on the feeding. Hope you catch some good ones soon. Be patient and take your time that is key this time of year probably fishing. But, when they get hungry they will be aggressive. Great fun 😊
@outdoorsandin193614 күн бұрын
@@FishYanker I appreciate the tips!! i’m gonna try using a minnow with the jigs, i’ve just been using regular jigs no minnows
@FishYanker14 күн бұрын
Yes, Minnows will give you chance to catch that big boy crappie. When I don't use minnows, I like to use crappie bites because it gives it the jig scent that they like. Good luck and I hope you catch some good ones.
