Much appreciated, but i will say this on the idea that any curly tail will do. I've used that very curly tail. When he pulled the lure through the water near the rod tip at the boat to demonstrate the swimming action, he pulled it a lot faster than he fishes, and that tail won't swim at the speed he fishes. The "wrist", where the body meets the tail, is too thick. He caught fish, but it wasn't due to the swimming action of the lure at the retrieve speed that RG notoriously fishes. Look for a lure with a thinner wrist. Berkley makes one that will swim with the least amount of forward movement. It's more like a ribbon tail. Or...you can trim the wrist of the WM lure with a pair of scissors.

Just like in cold weather ...shiners don't go crazy in cold water ...they are neutral just like most fish. . So a jig would be better just sitting there when you get the right depth...

Hey Richard,go crazy now and then! Ha! Good final comment you made on economy jigs often out producing name brands,if you find the right one's. I caught my personal best crappie this past Sunday a 2.3 pound 16 1/4 inch beauty. Yet an older gentleman fishing in a boat nearby caught far more fish than I. He slow trolled a simple cheap yellow jig around the bridge pilings and mopped up on crappies. Another nice fellow tight lined minnows(no float) from his jon boat. He was catching fish all along too. Wonderful displays of skills. We can learn from such fisherman. I was casting a 1/8 oz fin spin blade jig with a 1/32 dropper jig up a foot and a half. Using fireballs too, when I caught my huge crappie. Thanks for all of the fabulous information, laughs and fun!
