Master George! Thank you ever so much for this video. I’ve been in a slump trying over and over to figure out what’s wrong. But after imitating your grip and toss I have got my first 28 rolls before the seven! Thanks again. I still need to practice to have the dice to stay together and hitting the back wall and staying within 6 inches of the landing zone. But one day. one day soon?

Hey John. If I may say this. If you enjoy the journey you’ll get there and you’ll start having a “feel” of the dice and whether your grip will produce what you want or not. Question is always the same. Do you have the persistence and patience for the journey. I am glad you found the video helpful. But it’s all you buddy. I just showed you a way. (One of many)

Great insight G-Money.... appreciate you giving back your knowledge, time and wisdom. FWIW, the Dice Gripper I can make a bunch up for the CN guys once I clear out my Table Saw etc from all the home projects.:-)... It’s a good tool to use to keep square/parallel to the dice. I personally don’t use mine anymore. I try and double tap the felt before each toss when shooting Parr. But I can make them for all those who want them....great Vid brother

you are very welcome Troy. Indeed practice is key to develop a consistent way of throwing the dice. It also helps you gain a psychological edge as the sevens will not affect you but will teach you how to avoid them more effectively in a future throw by adjusting something.. either grip toss or even landing zone.

i have a suggestion cut your 3 fingers with a table saw perfectly straight across for a even line :) you want to hit about 6 inches before the wall. Looks like your hitting 1 inch or 2 inches to the wall which will cause a bigger roll back. The fix on the fingers being straight simply turn the tips of your fingers down putting your nails into the table and you need to grip way farther down on the dice your way to high up with the grip. I do like your slight swing back and your nice smooth release. There is no flicking with you release on the fingers or hand nice job.

Love what you're doing and I noticed the same thing,,, however when you take the dive back from perp they disappear from you're view. And given the nature of drawing the dice across you're body it creates too much opportunity for inaccuracy...I found it's better at this point to just keep the dice in eyesight....it worked for me, however like you said the difference in finger height is an issue...still working on it! the Don's grip is pretty accurate because drawing the dice closer to you're palm eliminates a lot of variance. however it takes away some natural pendulum....so compensation in arm speed has to increase....and like I said, I'm still working on it!
@GeorgeFromCy

hey Chris, thank you for your comment.it took me a while to reply because i was thinking about what you said... I must admit that ever since that video, my mechanics have changed/ evolved. now i use a shallow back swing which should presumably help me with dice direction a lot more.. as for gripping the dice in a Capital C sort of way, it is ideal because alignment of the fingers in a straight line is better but for me, it makes my toss more.. fake? if that's a word i can use. The arm becomes very stiff trying to keep the C grip in place throughout the back swing and forward swing as opposed to letting my arm flow naturally. Each little thing we do has an effect on something else i guess and at the end of the day we need to find the right compromise for every single detail in our toss to optimise results. Truly happy you commented with such precision Sir. Thank you
@mudslidemac9613

Brilliant video my friend. Your inscription of the mechanics is spot on. May I add the following. All we can control is the grip, set and launch to the landing zone. once the cubes leave the hand the result can only be influenced by the former, it cannot really be controlled. The end result is a function of physics and the skill of the shooter. Like hitting a golf ball, baseball with a bat etc. The shooter does what they can to influence the result by controlling the skill. We refer to the end result of a dice toss as being on or off axis in relation to the axis position of the original set. In reality once the dice hit the table (as you see in slow motion) they spin around several axis on the way to the final position. Our skill is that we can minimize the movements as much as humanly possible to assist the cubes in their path to the final position. Just saying.. All the best and stay frosty.
@AfroPick82

Yep that's why It's called dice influence instead of dice control. Just like the House is influencing the dice with their table surface & definitely pyramid diamond backwall.

Hi George, this is a great video and I have been working hard on my practice rig on everything you showed. I really liked your explanation of everyone having different finger length, etc. so grips will look a little different player to player. My ring finger is just slightly shorter than my middle finger but my index finger is quite a bit shorter than my ring finger. Additionally, my left index finger is a bit longer than my right. Practicing from both sides with the same swing using both hands. Much easier to get on stick right and using left hand. I have found that if I get a good centered grip with my middle finger and thumb and barely touch the edges of the dice with my ring and index fingers, I get a much more consistent on axis toss. Never have to worry about one finger or the other providing more strength as both are barely touching the edge with the tips of the fingers and applying equal pressure. I guess my only question is discerning the results, (on axis, off axis, single/double pitch, etc.) as caused by the toss or back wall. Some tosses look great, staying together and on axis, but once hitting the back wall it seems out of my control. Not sure how to analyze the results as mechanics of toss or back wall interference.
@GeorgeFromCy
@GeorgeFromCy 3 жыл бұрын
Well first of all thank you for your kind comments. I truly believe that your job ends when the dice hit the felt. However a bad result may indicate other things like wrong landing zone where dice travel slightly different distances to reach the backwall therefore they go out of sync even on a perfect toss. It can be fixed. Other things like thumb pushing or over extension of your arm with a brain induced recoil May also cause loss of Harmony between your dice. Your backswing rhythm may need to be extended or shortened depending on surface conditions. There are so many micro adjustments that one can do. The more tools you have the more you know how to adjust. Hindsight through practice creates insight which in turn produces foresight. Meaning. You’ll be in a position ultimately to judge a good result as a bad shot and make the necessary adjustments for your next throw.

Great video. I have a couple crazy questions that I asked a craps class instructor about 15 yrs ago. 1. If you can teach me how to stop double pitching, can you teach me how to consistently double pitch so I can use the 7 set or variations of it to avoid the 7? So in your opinion what would be the best way to throw a double pitch using a 3 finger or 2 finger grip?
@GeorgeFromCy
@GeorgeFromCy 4 жыл бұрын
djbthunder in my opinion anything you do with your front fingers which creates an UNEQUAL contact of those fingers between the 2 dice will create rotational difference. Whether it’s a 2 finger or 3 finger grip. So the likelihood of a 7 increases substantially. Using the all 7 set would this lower likelihood of a 7 and would scare everyone at the table who watches you set the dice. 😂
@midnightmadness6676
@midnightmadness6676 4 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeFromCy I have done the all 7 set at the tables often when I am having trouble with getting them to do what I want, and it really does help for longer rolls. Of course it makes no difference if you just Chuck the dice down the table or go wild with them but if you are just a little off you can have one of your longest throws. I think I suggested you try this sometime. Lol

@@djbthunder first of all , thank you for your custom which is truly appreciated. i have seen you participate in quite a few lives throughout craps nation and your comments are usually quite precise. Secondly, why would we care about anyone else at the table. Frankly we should not as people make their own investing decisions without asking for our input therefore risk reward belongs solely to them. As for the set used the all 7 set is just another set whereby your mechanics determine the outcome and not what is on top at the beginning of the toss. The other reason for not caring is that while others have simple decisions like "same bet" or Press..or Take me down . we are doing that and on top we make calculations and adjustments to our throw our landing area our grip and our release.. its quite a few decisions and we do not need to bother with other exogenous factors to complicate further our mission to avoid the 7

What happens when you set 4 3 set. You take one seven out of play?? 36:41
@GeorgeFromCy
@GeorgeFromCy 7 ай бұрын
The set you described is an all 7 set. When you say “what happens” please elaborate. If you throw the dice perfectly on axis you may get a seven. If you double pitch on axis you’ll get hard 6/8 or snake eyes or boxcars. If you go one of axis your result cannot be a seven. If both dice are off axis you may seven out in 2/4 cases and get hard 10/4 in 2/4 cases. To answer your question. It all depends on dice behaviour (ie your mechanics)
@sfine63
@sfine63 7 ай бұрын
This is my thinking…… if I set the 4 3 set.. I vary rarely roll a 4 3… so that said I take that seven out of the equation…. That what set I used after point established…I always shoot at the end of the table…………..Just me

Excellent information George, thanks a million. Do you think it is possible to achieve desired results using another grip? Two finger or tong?
@GeorgeFromCy
@GeorgeFromCy 4 жыл бұрын
Glen Thomason first of all thank you for your kind comment. Secondly and this is my opinion, anyone can achieve any desired result as long as he truly understands his mechanics. No matter the grip. The difficulty is that it does take considerable time and commitment on one’s part to get there. Understand dice behaviour and what caused it (from one’s mechanics) and how to try to correct it.

I’m so glad I finally found a video like this George. But when I try to grip the dice like that on just the cut edge, my fingers can’t keep a grip on them long enough to make the toss. I’ve tried chalk and wiping my hand and it doesn’t seem to help. I always end up having to move my thumb and/or fingers further down in order to not drop them while holding them lightly.
@GeorgeFromCy
@GeorgeFromCy 3 жыл бұрын
Seb. If it’s difficult and unnatural it means you’re doing it the right way. Because this grip goes against the way our wrist and fingers were designed. Our middle finger is longer and the widths of our fingers put together take more surface area than available dice area. This is why it took me 3 months to even feel comfortable with this bloody grip 🤣🤣 Having said that the PARR grip is universally accepted as the grip n toss for all table surfaces. Learn it. Learn it’s adjustments. You don’t need any other grip n toss.

When I began learning how to control the dice I was using three finger grip and overthinking everything!! Where my fingers are, release, landing area, how much arch (ect). The more I was trying to be perfect the harder it became. Than one trip to Vegas I was able to get in on a game of dice where I experienced an older women who would set , shoot and score. She had one of the most fluid throws I had ever seen. She was using a grip different than the three finger and it began to make me wonder. So when I returned home I got back to my practice and told myself I need to find a grip and toss that was most comfortable to me. After trying many different grips that I had learned from watching videos on KZbin I found one and began practicing with it. Today my best throw is a 54 and many others in the 40’s. In fact I just threw a 49 Saturday afternoon. These are great rolls that don’t happen all the time but when I practice all I think about is being relaxed and shooting the dice fluidly. These thoughts have changed my game tremendously!! There is no exact way to grip the three finger. Some like the edges, others like half way down the dice and I’ve seen some who place there three fingers all the way down to the felt. So I recommend trying a little bit of everything and find what is most comfortable for you. Once you find this practice,practice,practice!!!! You will began to see exactly what the dice are doing and than you can began experiencing with different dice sets. Always start with the hard way set and than adjust from there. Don’t get frustrated thinking you’ll need to make a perfect shot every time because that is never going to happen. Be comfortable with shot and let em rip!!! I wasted the first 6 months of practice trying to perfect the three finger grip and wish someone would have givin me this advice sooner. Hope this advice can help your game!!! God bless
