Desalination sounds like a great way to get drinkable water. However, it’s not that simple.
Desalination is the process of removing salt from sea water 🌊 but it:
🔋is high in energy consumption
💶is expensive
🐟can disrupt marine life
🧪produces chemical by-products which need to be managed
The EU Taxonomy Regulation classifies desalination as a “green” investment under strict conditions related to environmental aspects.
The process is already used in 🇪🇸 🇨🇾 🇵🇹 🇬🇷 🇮🇹 as response to water shortages.
