Hello Capt. Clumsy. You sound Ike you are having way too much fun so this could be illegal ;-) This helicopter looks and sounds great and is amazing for sightseeing. I am having a terrible time controlling the Airbus (using only my joystick) so I will hold off on this one for a while until I get to be able to maneuver the Airbus better. I was watching the truck you were spotting (@ 15:00>) and got a kick out of how the AI were running each other off the roads. Looked like me driving in ETS2! Thanks and stay well, Captain.

Haha yes definitely! And yes the AI does look familiar, huh. 🤣 Stay safe!

It's a lovely helicopter, and very well done by flyinside. Just an FYI about why you still have to hold pedal in during forward flight, vs the H135 where you can release the pedal input, if you look at the tail section on the 135 you'll see it looks much like the vertical stabilizer on a fixed wing aircraft, with plenty of surface area which air can act upon to provide directional stability, the faster you go the more effective this is, and there comes a point when the provided stability outweighs the torque of the rotor, hence the pedal input is no longer required. By contrast, if you look at the Bell 47s tail section, there really isn't much in the way of a solid surface there for air to act on, which means that there's not really much in the way of directional stability at any speed, so you have to keep pedal input in constantly to compensate for the torque. There is, of course, some stability there, meaning as you pick up speed you can reduce the pedal input a little. If you look at the ball under the airspeed indicator you've actually got too much left pedal in for most of that flight, and please don't take that as a criticism, I struggle with it myself, it's a lot of work to fly, it's merely an observation that while you can't take the pedal out entirely in this aircraft, you can reduce it. One thing I really like about this helicopter is how little power it has vs the H135 or other more modern helicopters, it really makes flying it even more challanging, as often, particularly if you're flying it heavy, you really need to use translational lift to get out of ground effect, I've had a few sketchy moments of "Oooh..... am I gonna clear them trees down there??? Um..... uh oh......" and the likes, really makes you think a little harder about what you're doing, and you can also find yourself running out of power and unable to turn left (notice as you feed left pedal in manifold pressure rises) certainly makes things more interesting

Wow thanks for the detailed explanation! Makes perfect sense. And yes definitely agree! I've been flying this helicopter for weeks and still struggling with it, but loving every minute of it. Helicopters are awesome!
@Streaky1000013 жыл бұрын
@@TheClumsyGeekGaming Haha, yeah, it's definitely a challenge to fly. I've spent many hours in the DCS Huey, and thought I'd become somewhat reasonable at flying simulated helicopters, but boy has the Bell 47 proven me wrong. The worst part about it is I know that all of my issues are pilot induced. But yeah, it's an absolute handful and I love every minute of it!
@Oz_Gnarly_One3 жыл бұрын
Now that you have found the joy of helicopters I would suggest checking out "Helicopters Lessons in 10mins or Less" Channel. He is an Apache pilot who covers all the aerodynamic principles that apply to helicopters in easy to understand short videos. You will understand why you need things like your left pedal more sometimes and less others, why the chopper wants to roll to the right once you get moving forwards. It's really interesting and almost all of these effects are active in the Bell 47 modelling.

You actually shouldn't need to raise the collective at all to take off. They say, "hover power is climb power", so if you're pulling say, 21" manifold pressure to hover, then that same power setting will give a nice steady climb once you get a little forward air speed.

I downloaded the free r44, which flies nice but needs polishing. Then I was hooked. Like you said, it has to be the most fun I have had in the sim. You can take in the scenery so so well. And land anywhere. I love it. Then I went and bought this, and basically I am now flying only rotorcraft lol

Do you have special settings in the game for the controllers?
@TheClumsyGeekGaming3 жыл бұрын
The user manual will guide which exact mappings you need in the sim. Sensitivities will all be at 0 and you need to assign certain axis to certain controls. It's pretty straightforward, though. Enjoy!

@@TheClumsyGeekGaming I had to have special settings for the 135, so I wondered about this. The suggested settings are more stable - lesson: don't mess with your default control settings.

Seems a really nice thing, I was about to buy it after your funny review, but luckily noticed there is an extra tool I've to let run just because the copyright protection. Usually I totally ignore such add-ons, I mean there is an ingame store for this purpose. Imagine every seller would do that, I would need lots of tools running just for using their addons. I'm gonna wait, maybe they put the Heli in the Store sometime. Anyway, nice video as always, really enjoyed watching!
@TheClumsyGeekGaming3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!. Personally I don't have a concern about the extra app, but yes, I understand some people might find issue with it. Hope it gets added to the in-sim marketplace eventually.
@DanielChurchFlyInside3 жыл бұрын
We'll have this in the Marketplace the minute it's approved, but we've been waiting for months to have our Marketplace application approved... In the mean-time external copyright protection is the only way to do it, as MSFS doesn't allow proper aircraft DLLs like P3D or X-Plane.
@aarobriggs26653 жыл бұрын
@@DanielChurchFlyInside Thank you for letting us know! Personally, I would pay even some bucks more to have all my addons at one place than struggle with external tools or even worse with activation limits. The moment where it is in the store, im gonna buy it!
@Oz_Gnarly_One3 жыл бұрын
I’m sure Daniel can confirm but they had to create their own flight dymacis to get the chopper behaving right, which is part of that external tool.

I think the heli is awesome in VR. I have some issues with self-induced oscillation when I have a low frame rate. You have to guess what you think the heli is going to do and counter it before it makes the move. But I won't going any less than expert mode.😊

According to a work mate who flies a Robinson R22 in real life, it’s harder in a sim than real life as you don’t have the feel of when the aircraft is about to change attitude. These little helicopters are much harder as they are more twitchy.
