Welcome back!
I've finished the crash damaged wrecked Ducati 848 superbike and it's back on the road. After weeks of rebuilding it I can finally ride it. I bought this bike from Copart salvage auctions and rebuilt it.
I've replaced the fairings, front forks, front wheel, clutch and brake levers and even had a hole in the engine repaired!
Check out the other videos in this series:
I bought a SMASHED UP Ducati Superbike and it's worse than it looks!
• I bought a SMASHED UP ...
Fixing everything wrong with my SMASHED UP Ducati - except the engine!
• Fixing everything wron...
Can this Ducati Superbike engine be saved?
• Can this Ducati Superb...
Thanks to everyone who supports me

Ash, in my experience bikes will drop below minimum on the oil whilst running, it's in transit around the engine! Coolant should be topped up at the rad, wobble bike and squeeze rad pipes to remove any air and keep topping up until air has gone. Then worry about the expansion tank. The expansion tank barely needs any coolant. Check level marks on it. Well done for getting it running.
@AshRowland
@AshRowland 6 күн бұрын
Thanks mate, yea I realised that with the oil... I'll do 100 miles on it and drain it and replace the filter again to make sure it's all clean

You can run the engine up with the rad cap off. This will allow any air bubbles to escape. Then, top up the radiator, and put the cap back on. If the level in the header tank rises when the engine is hot, it's because the coolant expands as it gets hot, pushes its way past the rad cap, and into the expansion tank. As the coolant cools down, it's sucked back into the rad. Well done on flushing the engine through.

Amazing work Ash! Really impressive progress! I was looking for a winter trackbike project, remember seeing this bike back at end of Nov in Copart but stepped away when I spotted the engine case hole. You are very brave for picking this up! Ended up winning a red 848 Evo ‘13 with termis from Chester Copart, nose and left side damage. All sorted now with performance parts and race fairings. That gen of ducatis have several issues. Plastic tank swells, don’t use fuel with ethanol. Stator yellow cable wicks oil. Clean up the electrical contacts with contact cleaner and lithium grease or it can create resistance and melt the cables. Do the belts if they are old. Immobiliser and keys are linked to the dash not the ECU. Jpdiag for diagnostics. You can reprogram the ECU if you want to delete the servo motor or switch to another map using KKL OBD cables IAW5xReader, TunerPro or TuneECU.

Came out great!! sad you have to sell it. I definitely understand tho. My 848evo shocks me everytime I need to buy parts. Its always 3 or 4x more expensive than any other bike I own. I can't Imagine what it would be like if I wasn't a mechanic and had to take my bike to ducati. 😬

@snappers_antique_firearms
@snappers_antique_firearms 6 күн бұрын
@AshRowland you should it would be interesting to find out. I bet 2 1/2 to 3x the price. The sad part is these bikes can be totalled just by falling over with very little damage. Insurance goes off of ducati parts prices. A set of new Fairings from ducati is high enough to total out the bike if it's got higher mileage. Happened to a friend whos bike rolled forward off the kickstand on a hill. had only fairing damage. it was all just paint scratches and a few scratches on foot peg and bar end. Insurance Totaled it out saying it was over half the value of the bike in damage. Its been a few years but i want to say it was something like $3500 to $4000 in damage. He bought it back from the insurance company. Bought a set of the ebay fairings and I want to say less the $800 the bike looked perfect.

Using engine flush isn’t good on bikes, the crank bearings are very small/narrow and the cam lodes are steep/high so the drop in viscosity and lubricity can cause problems, also the flush can effect the clutch. Do another oil change to flush any remaining engine flush out of it and you should be good.
@AshRowland
@AshRowland 4 күн бұрын
Okie dokie mate, I did read that about the clutch, but thought that was probably the best way to get any residual aluminium filings out... I did notice the clutch was a bit noisy when the stuff was in there but it quietened down again with fresh oil afterwards 👍

I totally agree, I have a 2012 Streetfighter 848, best bike I ever had. I disagree with you mum, except, ride like an a$$hole, and die the same way. I've been riding since 1982, and guess what, I'm not dead yet.

Thanks mate, it's all about how you ride and how many risks you take at the end of the day... like you said, ride like and idiot, die like and idiot

Great job getting it back together. Unfortunately its been a trend since Covid that people lose sight when buying the vehicle (bike/car) and bid way too much when buying from Copart/moto mine etc as well as forgetting they have to pay fees that have also risen as the trend has gotten more popular. Beautiful bike, great job but overpaid for in the initial purchase

You're probably right, I think 2k would have been better but I never realised the availability and price of all the parts I'd have to get!

Why not try what some of the car channels do and raffle the duke seems to be a money spinner for some and a way of raising more money than simply selling obviously I don’t know how many takers you would need to make it viable but maybe something to look into 😬
@AshRowland
@AshRowland 5 күн бұрын
Yea I've thought about that but I'm not sure I'd be able to generate enough ticket sales to make it work, I'd have to sell 5000 tickets at £1 each and i just don't think my channel is big enough for that yet

Cooling system is not rocket science. Coolant from expansion tank can only go inside the system when the engine is cooling off from running and there is coolant missing in the rest of the system
