The paraglide can land below 20km/hr in very short distance. You are less likely to hit something hard.
@CheesusCrustus3 жыл бұрын
@@esphilee but you don't need the 500 ft to land. Especially if it's in a field, it goes really quick to get to a stop. If there are trees around you can absorb most of the impact with the wings, additionaly the wings don't just fold in like a parachute does If the wind hits at the wrong angle. We don't even have to talk about actual impact protection, in case of a crash (crash, not just emergency landing) an actual plane gives way more protection. This farmer shotgun scenario happened to the drummer of the 1970’s rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd (Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird, etc.) When they had their famous plane crash that took the life of their lead singer as well as others in the band and crew, the band’s drummer, Artimus Pyle, survived the accident, but was badly injured. He barely had the strength but went to get help. A farmer saw this bloody “long haired hippie” climbing over a fence in his field and shot him with a shotgun. I met Artimus Pyle a few years ago. I’m a retired police detective and I took an overtime assignment to a work security gig at a concert that his new band was playing at. Afterwards, I escorted his bus back to a local hotel And when we got there he came off the bus and came over and thanked me for my service and helping with the concert. We sat outside and talked for over two hours and he spoke in great detail about the plane crash. He told me about getting shot and that he understood why the farmer shot him. It was because to the farmer it probably thought he looked like he was a zombie coming to attack him. He said he got shot in the shoulder and as he was spinning around from the shot, he was able to speak out “plane crash”. The farmer realized his mistake and that his brains were safe and called for help. It was an incredible story to hear. Especially 1 on 1. I got to ask any questions I wanted about the crash and the band. Admittedly I didn’t know much about the band at that time, but boy did I ever after our conversation. I think why we talked for so long, because he met someone that he could tell all these stories to that was hearing them for the first time. In my career I’ve been around countless celebrities, I’ve never had any bad experiences with any off them. But I never met a nicer or more open, and unfiltered man as Artimus Pyle.

Haha! I love the passenger briefing, “hold on Wendy, we’re gonna crash!” Bit different to what I was taught during my pilot training! 🤣
@suzukirider90303 жыл бұрын
This is an ultralight though? Not sure he has any official Pilot training...?
@marekwojtowicz30053 жыл бұрын
Any pilot training includes the magic sentence. Don't panic! As a former glider pilot decades ago I still remember some rough moments. Stay calm ...it's easier said than done but that's why certain people shouldn't get behind a steering stick.

That was a really satisfying landing to watch... the anxiety of anticipation of a hard landing dissipated quickly and smoothly just like the kinetic energy of the ultralight as it seemingly got swollowed by the tall grass! That looked pillow soft... great job on that landing!!!

It was a non - issue, and nothing to flip out about. A power off landing with a ram air canopy is normal. I don't know why he scared his passenger talking nonsense about crashing.

The nice thing about flying a parachute around is...your parachute is always deployed. I've had engine-outs and prop malfunctions galore. The worst part is just waiting to get picked up...
