@@CoIoneIPanic No, apparently none of you know how a plane is actually flown. A plane cannot fly this type of approach automatically. It has to be done manually. The captain has to be certified to land at this particular airport. It has no ILS. Autopilot can’t simply land on any runway, nor simply fly any approach. Approaches are flown to fixed points, using various types of vectors. This particular airport is VFR only, hand flown, and hand landed.

I see dozens of them every day right outside of the window in my room, each flying stable and gracefully, like statues in the air. Now after seeing that approach and landing in Paro I'm just out of my shoes. So many turns, so closely to the mountains on each side, I imagine tips of the wings almost touching the treetops! As an Airbus pilot, it is typical to keep the autothrust (throttles) engaged during the approach prior to landing. The aircraft announcement to “retard” at around 10 to 20 feet above touchdown is a reminder to close the thrust levers to idle which disengages autothrust. Otherwise the engines will increase power assuming you will be executing a “go around” maneuver which makes an effective landing impossible
