Astro Bot! I was playing the game, having a fun time and all when suddenly... the Crash Site theme started to remind me of a song called "Knights of Cydonia" by my favorite band, Muse. I tried my best to stop myself from doing this video but here we are! I do know that not everyone will know both of these songs, but hopefully you'll find the cover enjoyable either way.
Both tracks have a clear Ennio Morricone inspired "spaghetti western" feel to them which made it easy for me to hear one song into the other. Of course, not every section will sound like Muse as I still had to follow the structure of the Astro Bot tune, but I do think the general sound and idea is there.
I learned a lot of new things in the process as I had to watch videos to try and learn how to replicate certain guitar sounds like that real "fuzzy" lead tone that you hear early on for example.
If you listen to both songs one after the other you should be able to hear a lot of references in my cover. I replicated the drum groove, the Crash Site electro-bass is changed to an electric bass guitar playing a galloping pattern that follows the drums, I start the melody with a "fuzzy" vibrato-heavy guitar sound and follow up with an high-pitch tremolo picking section accompanied by trumpets. Then of course I had to do the "dance party" chorus section from the Astro Bot song before I followed that up with a clean guitar section where Matt would start singing the first verse 2 minutes into the song.
I almost abandoned this project at one point as I simply couldn't make every sections blend well together. After many changes and a lot of head scratching though, I'm super happy with how this turned out and I'm excited for you to hear it! I hope you'll like it!

You totally nailed the connection here, it's a brilliant hybrid o' references that isn't being called out enough - Kenneth C M Young did an amazing thing tipping the (cowboy) hat to Morricone tropes, and you took it further with the "Knights of Cydonia". When I was first playing Astrobot, I was trying to figure out what Muse song it reminded me of, and wowza, same conclusion as you! THANKS for not abandoning this and persisting. I love those tremolo-likes guitar sounds in this cover, the swining gives truly an interessting sound =)! and the Rock-Elements work so well with the "wild-west" leads for this song, in general you can never do anything wrong in combining e-guitars and trumpets to create epic melodies =D this is truly one of your best Gab, which says a lot - you can be proud of this original idea, the arrangement and playing!

Thank you! 😊 It'll be on all streaming platforms soon and will be available for one-time purchase from the iTunes Store and Amazon. I can't put it on Bandcamp though... Since I didn't compose this song, the cover needs to be licensed for distribution. That way the composer gets a percentage every time someone streams/buys my cover. My distributor gets licenses for me and sends the songs to platforms. Bandcamp on the other hand doesn't work the same way. I'd need to put the song on there myself AND purchase individual mechanical licenses which is a complicated process. So I keep Bandcamp for my original music since I don't need a license to sell those.
