I love the drift class, it's perfect for people who don't like hopping constantly. I think with tracks with blue flame is exactly what it was made for, other than that speed or acceleration is the way to go

I would be totally OK with more new driving styles; I thought it would have been better if new characters weren't just getting the same old 4 categories from the original CTR, so a new category with different stats values might just spice things up a little more. It is odd that no character is a default Drift character and I expected at least Nina, Brio and Moe to be in the new category, but nevermind, since now anybody can be whatever we want.

Drift class is just too slow r8 now. It would be cool if the speed during the drift was the fastest of all classes, but the overall speed would be lower than balance or the same as turning. That way player would be rewarded for skilled gameplay and punished for not maximazing the drift/boost mechanics.

I agree. This would also serve to help newer players get into the right mindset to get better at all classes, as CTR's gameplay is heavily focused on drift boosting as much as possible.

Im accel main from the original ctr, but i also loved to play as a turning character. Now high accel is useless, high turning is worse than ever. Speed is the only stat that matters, especialy with new air-brake which doesn't kill your reserves. Atleast we've got the swap engine now. Beenox stat fix pls

Um, actually... that's what the Drift engine really is. It's slowest engine in terms of speed and acceleration (equal to Turn and Speed, who are the worst per stat respectively), and it has... OK-ish handling. (It's somewhere in the middle). Want to know what the gimmick is? It's party trick is that you can achieve and sustain a slightly slower variant of yellow fire speed by simply drift boosting! And this speed is HIGHER than what you can do with Speed the same way! In other words, on tracks where it is hard to keep your reserves or you have only a small number of boost pads and in very few places on the track, this is actually a really good option for racing! (Not so much for time trial as it doesn't fully benefit when under full yellow fire speed.) Don't believe me? Take it around Slide Coliseum; you'll be amazed by just how fast it is there!

I'll be honest... i actually race about the same with all types of racers because i race for fun. I hate to admit it, but i don't really find intrest in time trials despite wanting N. Tropy so bad. However, i do like the new option and the variety of stat types. It honestly makes me curious if more types could be added in the future.

I'm the same, when i race online i mostly see it as a fun way of making lots of wumpa coins without paying for them. As for N. Tropy i have unlocked him and i can say Oxide Station, Cortex castle and possibly Tiny temple are the trickiest IMHO.

@@flameslinger8820 I ALWAYS chose Speed, when I played the original and unlocked Tropy then... This time around I did all speed APART from Oxide Station... I could NOT do it! I changed to acceleration and found myself clearing even Oxides time when I beat Tropy. This is what I used for all Oxide time trials, too. It may not be as fast without drifting but you can really nail the corners and build up speed quickly.

Ok, so I had 2 free from work days. I tested CTR online and in a local multiplayer and I tried every driving style many times. And I have to admit I really like Drift style and I know why - I was usually going with Speed or Acceleration depending on the track because I didn't have that confidence in turning using Speed characters. Having Drift style is something in between for me, because I have little better turning possibility, and speed is good for me - I won couple races online and I was doing challenges using this setup, so I'm glad they added it (I mean it's for harmful for anyone at least). I do the same. Whenever I get a bit of a harder track online which I'm not really a fan of doing in a speed class (cus I'll have to froggy every tight corner), I just use Drift instead and it works perfectly. Some people say this class is really slow, yeah in some cases it might be slow, just don't use it on wide tracks with easy turns. However harder tracks, especially the ones with blue flame pads, there it can go really handy. Sometimes it might work, sometimes it doesn't. It's better than Balanced and Turn, for sure...

I'm a speed player myself. I know most people are, and it's become popular to rip on people who play speed simply because it's so meta, but I honestly just play best when I play speed. I haven't been able to play the update yet as I have been doing the process of moving to a new house, but I am looking forward to getting the PS4 hooked back up so I can try out Oxide as a speed class.

So I recently tried the drift class and I must say I quite like it. After playing a speed character most of the time, it handles well, but at not too much expense of speed. I'm not sure when you first tried it, but apparently they changed its stats after release? Initially it was really slow, but you could get an extra boost (than normal), over other characters. Of course, being extra slow, this additional boost didn't make up for it. To me, it now feels like an alternative to the acceleration character (lower acceleration, but better max speed and turn). If you have trouble maintaining blue fire on tracks with a lot of turn, then this is where the drift class shines imo.

Drift is more of a Tactical class more so than a competitive (In my opinion). I just did three different races online and got 3rd place on the first two tracks (Papu's Pyramid & Hot Air Skyway). But when we were on Slide Coliseum, I was far more ahead than the Speed and Acceleration class that were 2nd and 3rd with a Beginner in 4th. It also depends on the track too, some have far more curves than most. I want to try it on Dragon Mines.

Certain tracks I was finding difficult to get better at speed like Electron Avenue. Then gotten better at using it. I tend to use speed overall. The more I play the better I get with the classes I favor for skills. Then you get that feeling of knowing why pro players embraces that class. And it makes tracks more enjoyable to play when you leaned how to navigate around, and maintain you’re boost. Drift comes handy when you like to have decent speed, but like a decent turn. But I guess lower acceleration is the cost of lowering speed. It usually boils down to skill.

I used to only ever Speed or Acceleration but mainly Speed but began to appreciate acceleration more than I used to on non Blue Flame tracks. I honestly had only tried drift a couple of times and didn't know exactly what I thought of it. But then after this video I thought I would give it a go on Coco Park I had a 1.27:95 on with Speed and determined to beat the 1 minute 30 you managed on your drift run, I got a 1.28:32 on my first attempt which was my second best time. With one more attempt I managed to get a new best time on Coco Park thanks to the drift style, I achieved a 1.27:18. I was surprised to do this well with a drift driving style especially when you add up the stats of each driving class drift you would think would have a disadvantage with 11 out 21 total points allocated towards Speed Acceleration and Turn, Compared to Speed 12 out 21 points allocated to respective stats, Acceleration with 14 out of 21, Turning also with 14 out of 21, & Balanced with 15 out of 21 But by that logic of higher allocated Accel Speed and Turn points in each class Balanced would be the better class but that doesn't seem to be the case, more stat points doesn't necessarily mean better which is probably why I managed to get a new best time with drift which has less overall stat points than any other class. It is situational. On tracks full of turbo pads, it is not interesting to use one (especially blue fire). But on some tracks (like dragon mines) where it is difficult to keep a sacred fire (or even online as you can easily loose sacred fire due to items), it can be a good class. It is more of 'catching up' class definitly.

Drift feels similar to Speed while on the ground, but it feels like turning while in the air. I don't think that's a good combination. I was a little surprised that it is the slowest class while driving normally, and I bit slower compared to finishing races with Speed or Accel. You know what they say; if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if you're fine with Speed or Accel, don't change your class and stay with what you like. Engine Swap: Necessary! Drift Class: Not Necessary!

Personally, I'm loving the drift class, I feel so much more comfortable using it over the speed class, that little extra handling goes a long way to help with the sharp turns so I don't have to constantly bunny hop or u-turn so I don't mind sacrificing that bit of top speed. The acceleration doesn't bother me either, a good boost from the starting line or continuous boosting gets you to the max speed anyway. Although I've not done any hard testing I feel like I'm making a lot more turns in an ideal line, not falling off the track or hitting the walls, like the first big blue fire turn in Hot Air Skyway or being able to drift around the pyramid in Papu Papu's pyramid.

I remember there being a video basically stating that the stat values are wrong, I believe this might still be the case for drift, if the style is only 1 bar off speed it shouod be faster in the long run vs acceleration. I like the drift class it seems that it just makes drifts that speed wouldn't, but it does feel like it is slower than it should be, especially in a game where acceleration plays such a small role. Conclusion: The premise of the class is great, but I feel the stats are incorrect, so speed and acceleration are still the ones to pick.

I REALLY like Drift, i like it more than speed. The handling feels fantastic and getting sacred flame on 3rd boost is really cool. Drift for me feels great to play! I honestly think they need to buff the skill based portion of this style so it can match up or even beat the faster styles but only with skill.

I have a hard time imagining what new driving styles they could implement in future updates. An opposite drift class comes to mind where they are faster if they don't drift boost, but this could be easily very OP and beats the point of the entire main gimmick that makes CTR stand out as a kart racer. The only other thing I can think of is a class that isn't as fast as the other classes, but gets stronger power ups to brute force their way ahead. That still doesn't seem super balanced to me either though, and would only even potentially be viable in a few gameplay modes and could easily be OP in battle mode.

I admire the new varied balancing attempt. I was digging it but the more I get the feel for it the more it feels like eh it’s alright. I do wonder if it’s more a personal feeling rather then just oh it feels like it doesn’t need to exists. I really like using drift in some races, but I think acceleration is still better as an 'all round' choice. The difference in feel with drift kind of makes me feel as if turns are sharper upon boost.

Agreed, it's just a better balance stat then the actual balance. The gimmick is beneficial but only on courses that boosts pads are few. Otherwise it's great practice for acceleration or speed class.

I've made some testing on a straight path just like the ones you did, but I've tried to mesure only at top speed (removing accel from the equation) and I've found that drift is actually slower than balance. Some people are saying that the flame you get from drift by triple boosting is actually slower than regular fire from speed. I'm going to try and test it but if that's the case than drift is in a really bad spot.

If you've gotten very good at most tracks, I'd say Speed is still the best. If you have a hard time keeping blue flames on tight turns, or are a bit sloppy, go with Acceleration or Drift. Turn and Balanced are for if you want some variety, or if you're a bit too much for the lobby you're currently in.

I've been using drift lately and I kind of like it. It feels smooth and I can do sharper air braking and bunny hops. Doesnt help with online :( I also noticed it isn't to popular online. Most people are speed or acceleration. Still, I like it and it feels pretty good to play.

This class can be quite slow, so don't use it on wide tracks with easy turns. However harder tracks, especially the ones with blue flame pads, there it can come really handy since most corners don't require frogging. Sometimes it might work, sometimes it doesn't. It's better than Balanced and Turn, for sure...imo.

I can't even catch my speed ghost on time trial using drift. But the sacred fire at the end of third boost is a nice touch, although didnt help much on time trial.

Personally I think the boost you get with the drift class needs to be buffed a bit so that it's actually viable to use amongst Speed and Accel players. Tried using Drift on Hard Mode and it performed even worse than Balanced and Turning because of how slow it is.

If they didn't make the stats flat out lie about the top speed of Drift style I would have said yes without question. The gimmick of Sacred Fire from just drift boosting helps a bit, but its lack of speed despite the stats saying it was the second fastest type is a real turn off.

I just can't help but doubt your findings. If you look at the world records for each track, speed is king. If you are good, speed will always be the better choice. The only exception is online when you get cucked by items, in which case maybe accel would be better. But I still think you're better off with speed and using some strats to avoid getting cucked by items.

This is great but competitive players say it is not worth it and playing the new drift style myself it is omega bad. Drift is slightly better then turn but overall the class is omega bad and not worth investing time into.

The new Drift option is a bad choice I've tried it is slow and has rather bad turning tried it with ripper Roo and while I'm going fast i usually stop on a dime. The stats should be turn and acceleration not fake crash stats from cnk.

How you went about comparing the engine types, mate, doesn't do justice to the stats... And what you should have done, really, was take them around Slide Colisuem... THAT would have surprised you!

You know I actually did this all on slide coliseum first and will drift did do well it was pretty much the same result

@@iamMisterBo UPDATE MATE: Beenox have made some changes to the Drift engine now in the recent patch. It no longer generates a slower state of Yellow Fire speed through drift boosting, but it now correctly hits the speed it states in its stat chart. It also feels like it handles better than either Acceleration or Speed, but I can't find a way to justify it mathematically.

I don't think drift is that good. Also I'd say that the all round characters are the worst imp

That's because the 'all rounded' characters aren't actually balanced, the game lies about the stats for some reason. The acceleration characters are actually faster than the balanced characters, for instance.

@@benrobinson375 yea and it sucks, balanced characters were more useful in the og ctr (since air braking actually killed your speed) but they just don't cut it in this game.

For me, Drifting is so Bad... Extrematelly bad and equal to WORSE WITH SPEED OR EVEN MORE... Despite all that SPEED comunity... For more than 20 years, on any kind of kart Racing videogame, if i choose a Speed option, or Some who has more Spees than Handling, it became on a 100% instant lose, but if i pick a Turning option, or Some than have Turning>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPEED, i can drive fine and With Effort and Skill Tie With Speedest Skilled players, and even sometimes Win... Once again, FOR ME The true problem of CTR nitro fueled is The Air-Brake or U-Turn Technique, Once they Fix that for PUNISH clases With 3/7 or less turn, The Game Would me more enjoyable and less Toxic... Seriously, all those "WE ARE THE MIGHTY, WE ARE THE SPEED" Comunity is awfull, and even Worse if on online they only focuses on people who use othee clases and The 7 Speeds attacks The only Turning over here (Me) just for being Skilled on ANOTHER CLASS... And The Toxic part is because i can only be Good on Turning class, nothing else

The drift style is totally useless. No one asked for it and I haven't seen anybody yet using it online let alone using it in world record time trials. Sometimes less is more. They shouldn't sacrafice what's working just for the sake of more options.
