On March 3rd, 1993, it was a cold morning in Skopje. A Passenger plane leaves the runway at the local airport for a short flight to Zurich. Just moments after leaving the ground the pilots suddenly find they have little control of their plane where it soon crashes moments later. The plane was operated by Palair, a small air carrier which served as the national flag carrier for what is now known today as North Macedonia.
The crash of Palair Macedonian Airlines Flight 301 was the first major incident to involve the Dutch built Fokker 100, a sleek short haul jet which was state-of-the-art at the time. So how does a modern plane crash just moments after leaving the runway?

The other pilot's name was Vlado Stojčev, 34, Macedonian. It is mentioned in an interview with the surviving flight attendant (I will post the link in reply). I'm Macedonian and really appreciate that someone has made a video about this disaster, great work. The safety of air travel was really poor in those days as this was the second fatal accident in a span of just 16 months which is terrible for such a small country with only 2 airports. In november 1993 a yak 42-avioimpex flight 110 crashed on landing killing all 116 people due to inoperational vor and atc misundersranding (the crew spoke russian and english and the atc macedonian which is unimaginable these days). When it comes to fokker, whenever one landed at skopje since the accident (until recently austrian airlines regularly used them) they would litterally "bathe" it with de-ice. So at least it seems that we've learned from this accident and thankfully air travel is much safer today.

I flew the F100 many times back in the ‘90s. The flight attendants rarely, very rarely, would use the full name of the manufacturer during safety briefings. It was just “…the safety features of this F100 aircraft.”

The fact people survived this accident is beyond amazing. I saw images of the remains of the only infact looking part of the aircraft (the cockpit), the entire right side of it was missing, everything inside of the cockpit was missing like it was scooped out and there was practically nothing left behind the cockpit. The rest of the aircraft was completely unrecognizable say for a bit of the tail, they must've been extremely lucky.

@dražen g nationality, language, and ethnicity are 3 very different things. There are Mexican Americans who only speak english..... mexican=ethnicity, american=nationality, english=language. Hence why I clarified the man was dutch(nationality) and his name was german(language).

You would think planes that were just deiced would have priority for take off, then planes landing.

Can you do FDX 705? Attempted hijacking by Fedex pilot in 1994, would make for a great video imo!

There is a story about Douglas Bader , who was giving a lecture at school about the spitfire. He quotes , I was flying along and 3 Fokkers came out of the sun at me ,The teacher interrupts with , "A Fokker is a type of German aircraft" , He replied ,, " Yes , But these Fokkers were flying Messersmitts " , Dunno if it is true but it sounds like him , he was a bit of a character,,
