Thanks for watching! 🐶💤Does your puppy sleep through the night? Or do they cry throughout the night?

First night was last night. So difficult. She cried, howled, etc first hour off & on. Then got quiet then after another hour cried & repeat. I had to put her across the house by guest bathroom with a sound machine because my husband had to get rest. She is a Cavapoo. Need day schedule for crate training (how much time & how often. Covered all sides or not also.

Going through this with a brand new rescue, who’s mother just up and abandoned an entire litter. Absolutely beautiful little blue-eyed “Jack-Be”, but my wife and I are getting no sleep. This pup just never had that phase with its mother, and is looking at a somewhat jealous, yet increasingly adorably protective, adolescent male as a mother. So, it would be really nice to be able to train him to sleep in a crate without crying, because it also stresses out our other dog who gets wound up hearing it, thinking something is wrong with his new “baby brother”.

Hey there, Michelle! I'm getting a Pomeranian puppy just after November, I've been really excited about this for a very long time, but this is my first puppy I'm going to be training indoors, and I've already gotten a list of things to get, I would really appreciate if you would give me some tips and tell me what to replace and whatnot! I love your vids, and I think this one will really help me out, too. 1. Harness (Pomeranians are prone to trachea collapses, also how could I leash train him better with this than a leash) 2. House line 3. Wire crate (Please advise if this would be as portable as the plastic top crates, it's a small one) 4. Round bed (I plan on putting a blanket in the crate when he's less prone to accidents, but I want a bed outside it for whenever he's older and more well behaved) 5. Play pen 6. Metal clip leash 7. Chew kong & Rope toy 8. Slow feeder 9. Eye wipes (To avoid tear stains) 10. Slicker brush & comb 11. Nose & Paw moisturizer 12. Potty pads (Im not sure if I should use that or the grass pad) 13. Travel bag (To put him in whenever we visit family/friends) 14. Puppy friendly toothbrush and toothpaste (They have large teeth and small mouths so I want to make sure they stay nice and healthy) 15. Cleaning spray for messes - I've waited almost 2 years for this puppy and I am just so happy about finally finding a breeder, I'm planning on starting a KZbin channel for him (If you see it, his name is Bou) and I will definitely be giving you tons of credit for all your help on KZbin!

@@HowToTrainADreamDog Thank you so much for the great info! I watched your video on the grass patch, but unfortunately I do not think I can use those. My parents have strict rules about the aesthetic of our house and because of that they said the grass pass cannot work.😔 Since Bou is a male, I'm not planning on spaying him, so do you have any advice for how I can prevent any messes from occurring, even when he's going on the pad? Should I use an extra large pad and train him to go in the middle? Thanks again!
@RainbowRiver
@RainbowRiver Жыл бұрын
@dreamsarerealityindisguise Hi, super jealous of the new pup! How are things going with Bou so far? One note about your second comment: The fact that he is a male makes it even more important that you spay him. A femal can only have one litter at a time. If he got out (unlikely seeing how prepared you are) he could contribute to a lot of different litters before you find him again. This is a big problem because of the amount of dogs that are already strays. We should be doing everything we can to prevent making overpopulation worse! The spaying surgery is also not as invasive for a boy so Bou should heal quick enough. Do your own research on the topic, of course, but please consider what I've said? Much love to you both😊💜

My 14 week old English Cream Retriever was doing great in the crate at night. At first I had to take her out around 2:00 to potty and she'd go right back to sleep until 5 or so. Then, she started sleeping straight through until 4:45 or 5:00. Now, though, she's waking up at 3:00, going potty, and then barking and fussing, refusing to go back to sleep. When she quiets for a few moments, I let her out of the crate. I've tried putting her back in it after some quiet time, but she starts barking again. She will settle on the floor or her pillow outside the crate and go back to sleep, but never in her crate. Help! I'm exhausted! We've been playing crate games daily.
@HowToTrainADreamDog
@HowToTrainADreamDog 7 ай бұрын
The crate games are really going to help you with this. The other thing is to evaluate her schedule to see if she's getting the right combination of activities that helps her sleep well. At this age she should be going for regular decompression walks so work out her body and her brain. If you're enrolled in our training program you'll find a sample schedule for her age in the schedules course.

Thank you so much for this video! Question: crate training is going well, but what should I do about him trying to eat his bed? Lol. We discourage bedding for dogs under a year of age. Don’t worry, the floor of your home or the dog’s crate is comfortable enough for him or her! Bedding often becomes a chew toy and has the potential for dangerous choking or intestinal blockage. Beds can often accidentally encourage a potty accident. Many puppies pee on their bed because it’s soft and squishy and they can then move it away to another part of the crate. We want to teach the pup to hold his/her bladder until he/she is outside.

Do you have any recommendations for heartbeat toys? amazon has so many and some of them sound so bad in the review videos. Also, any crate training tips for a 10 week old puppy who isn’t very food/treat motivated? The vet said he’s a healthy weight, but he doesn’t eat a lot at any one time and sometimes just plays with treats rather than eating them lol. He’s a 3.5lb Chihuahua-Bichon mix. He seems to like praise, but that doesn’t seem like a great way to play the crate game.

We like the snuggle puppy: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/snuggle_puppy As for the crate, it takes some time for a dog to settle into the home. Try using boiled chicken or some kind of very moist and smelly treat. Try not to push him past his comfort zone in training (not taking treats is a sign of stress) and be patient as he adjusts.

She also, seems to pee & poop when upset. She does do pretty well with potty training only have had 1 mistake of poo. I have had her 4 days. Also, how long during the day should I put her in crate to get her use to it? Cover all sides or not? Everyone says something different. I need help bad please. Thank you😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢.

It sounds like your puppy isn't ready for the crate yet. You can put a pen around the crate and leave the crate door open so she can get used to it more slowly. Do you have a Snuggle puppy to help her feel more comfortable? You'll want to avoid letting her have negative experiences in the crate or she'll never learn to relax in there. Pooping and peeing is a stress response which means you'll need to reduce the pace of training or offer some other sleeping spot (enclosed and safe) while you work on the crate training. She should not be in the crate with the door closed if she's panicking. If she's content in there and sleeping, cover three sides, leaving the back open for airflow. This is a good video for you and if you need more "how to" you'll find the training games in our online training program. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWHVXnhph5iLipY Puppy Perfection Training Program: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/30-days-to-puppy-perfection

I’m curious how to reconcile two competing thoughts in my head. It’s not always clear whether puppy has to pee or is just crying because she wants out of the crate. If I take her out for a quick, no nonsense potty break like you’ve suggested, and it turns out she was just trying to get out to play, do I have to worry about the fact that I just reinforced her crying by falling for her trick?
@HowToTrainADreamDog
@HowToTrainADreamDog Жыл бұрын
It's a great question. This is where tracking her schedule will help you. You'll start to notice patterns of how long she can hold it and and when she has to pee, so you'll know if her cry is a "play" or "potty" cry. You can also teach her to ring the bells for potty (not play). If you need help with the schedule, we have a great mini course that can help you. It has video lessons and sample schedules up to age 2 so it'll be really useful for a long time! courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/puppy-schedule-mini-course

We don't want to let him out if he's actively crying, but you'll need to work on the crate association so he is content and quiet in there. We do this with crate games and fun and positive activities in the crate (like treats or meals).

We are sorry to hear he's struggling. You might be expecting a little too much from him since he's so new to your home. It's also important not to let him have extended negative experiences in the crate. If he is crying for more than 10 minutes, it's time to try something else. Our online training program contains all the games to help him love the crate. Once you've conquered that you can move on to other fun training games to teach leash skills, leave it, drop it, go to your place and more! Your puppy probably needs more of a schedule where she's getting enough rest (16 hours in a day!) and also a balance of mental work along with the physical work. Dogs who get too much physical exercise without the balance of mental exercise and also naps will have a hard time settling in the crate for sleep.
