I can imagine 2020 has brought you a lot less business pressure Dave and replaced it with a far more satisfying role at your new company. The owner is clearly a smart guy whose prepared to listen and work with you to broaden the scope of his own business. You deserve it buddy ... another great video & stay safe.

Wow, those steady rests! 😃 Nice to see some guys that know what there doing in regards to moving large, heavy objects. Was kinda surprised that boom truck could even lift that beast 😅. Thanks for sharing, David! Cheers! 👍😁👍

Excellent and the old girl is giving a new chapter in her life of trepanning larger diameters than her fellow friends in the workshop that you are now working in. May she have many more years left in her and also in yourself. Take care.. and all the best...Phil

A slightly less tense move than the DSG- Almost had a heart attack watching that one! Great to see you working it in a new home. First time commenting here (never comment on KZbin videos), but just wanted to say how much I enjoy your channel. Cheers matey.

Howdy, back in 70s at Tubemakers we had big Cravens, Swifts, Dean Smith & Graces and 6Mt long big boring m/c's. These were the Rolls Royce of machine tools

I am impressed with the boom capacity on that truck!! What can it lift? Think I would scoot that lathe back a foot or 2 if possible. Looks like it would do a fat man a number if he was between those 2 carriages when they passed.

Looks like it could be a little tight between the carriage handles on those two machines!
@markfryer98804 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was my thoughts as well! It looks like it will be awfully tight when the carriage mechanisms pass each other.
@joandar14 жыл бұрын
@@markfryer9880 It appears to me it is not set in place as yet, it is mentioned that there is going to be a moat dug out and I suspect that will happen before the machine is set and leveled. Just my thoughts, John, Australia.

So, how is an engine lathe converted to a trepanning lathe? I guess the compound is removed and then a tool fixture of some sort attached to the cross slide or apron? Is the fixture permanent or easily switched out when you want to do normal lathe work?
@patrickshaw79834 жыл бұрын
I was just wondering the same thing.
@DH-wr7rw4 жыл бұрын
Looking at some older videos I see that the tool fixture is actually a turret. Is the turret custom made or is a old turret reworked to fit? Is that a regular steady rest used for the trepanning tool or is that custom made also?
