Randy, I would like for you to go into some depth on how you retrieve a chatterbait for various conditions. Do you prefer to do a straight retrieve like a swimbait or more of a bottom bouncing retrieve like a jig?

Great tips, great Elijah cameo. 🤣 That bluegill pattern is great during the spawn. Bass hate bluegills around their beds so they hit them violently.

Hey Randy I only use the Chatterbait Elite model because they have really good hooks and quality shirt material plus the skirts are hand tied, also I took one of my old Chatterbaits and looked at it beside a Jackhammer and the blade is bent in a little higher on the Jackhammer so I took a pair of pliers and bend the regular chatterbait the same place as the Jackhammer then tried it in the water and it started vibrating quick like the Jackhammer! Just thought I’d let you know

I don’t even use trailers half the time when the bite is on they just smash it by it’s self , if I feel I need a little bulk I’ll use a fat twister tail grub or a swim bait cut the tail off that’s so the bass got something soft to grab onto .When I do use a trailer it is a twister tail for a some what straight retrieve like fishing a spinner bait.If I use a craw dad or creature bait it will be for pitching and flipping .As always thanks for the information Randy have a great tournament year .

My current PB was on a golden shiner chatter bait. Was flipping stickups middle of the day and decided to sling around a catter bait. He crushed it too.

Jerry's flies here in west Virginia used to make a chatter bait he made them with grub he wouldn't put a skirt on they were smaller at first I didn't think it would work but I was wrong a lot of small mouth loved it he was a lot like you he use a color according to the water clarity and temp !!!!!!!

I really need to use this bait more often. I have only thrown it (shad pattern w/white swim tail) one day in November last year. I did catch one nice fish. Unfortunately, it was a channel cat that hit the lure right after it landed in the water. I take that as a positive as it did think it was something to eat. I will be using it more often this year. I like the tips on how to modify them to get more bites. Thanks as always Randy.
@mattorschell2752 жыл бұрын
Do you fish both colors the same way or do you crawl the craw colors on the bottom and swim the shad colors????

The one I caught one on was chartruce and white 1/4 oz. I like 1/4 oz baits better than 3/8 and I like 1/2 oz better than 5/8 or 7/8 normally with any kind of bait.spinner baits, chatter baits, jigs, etc.

I also tend to catch more fish on the crawdad (or bluegill) patterns than the shad patterns. Even when the fish seem to be actively feeding on shad, they will still hit the other patterns.

I've Literally boated hundreds of bass from 5 to 9 plus lbs on this bait since this bait first came on the market. Been fishing it since day one. Constant producer of big fish.

Do you ever use the bright firecraw pattern? When you paint the blades do you paint entire blade or just stripes or a corner or half? When painting the blades other than black what colors do you use when and Why? Thanks keep up the great information

I used a couple white ones when they came out and had no luck. A friend turned me on to using green pumkin with a large craw trailer. Green pumpkin has been my go-to color in ponds and I use a smallie/sweet beaver for a trailer most of the time. However my largest was pushing 10-lbs and caught on a bluegill color with a 5" swimbait for a trailer. I have caught more and bigger bass doing this than I have with anything else - kzbin.info/www/bejne/enOTq6yso7uoq5I

Would like you to speak into how the crawfish bite differ depending if they have shed their shells or not. When crawdads have shed their shells they are soft, do you see that the bite rate goes up during those seasons?
@kenneth98742 жыл бұрын
Fish definitely prefer soft shell crawfish but they don't shed enmasse but rather individually

Another good video, but I gotta ask, u frown upon the Jack Hammer, and their price, why do u dislike them so much? They work, and many have had great success with them. It cannot just be the price, maybe their product takes more time/effort just like your old school jigs. Just wondering
@philrowan56082 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t imagine when a bass has an opportunity to eat shad it thinks no I’ll wail until a craw comes by. There may be some truth to match the hatch for best results but I can’t see a bass passing up a meal given opportunity.
