Today we bale and wrap the silage for 2021 but i had an accident which broke the T7.200. New piglets, shed almost finished and moving the new diesel tank

Question Crawford. Silage. Watching @tompemperton the guys using choppers to put grass in bunkers whereas you are baling. Is the bale just a mini clamp once wrapped? Supplementary. The choppers spray additive to grass to aid digestion. Is that a dairy cows v bulls thing?

Yes bales and clamp are doing the same thing, locking out oxygen so acidic conditions can build for microorganisms. To bale or to clamp is purely up to circumstances, clamp requires a decent volume to be viable, bales offer more flexibility and can be better timed if theres a big spread of fields. Additive i don’t know too much other than it being a questionable cost vs return, but need to ask elsewhere for that. We have only done a small field of greening silage for 3/4 years now, definitely not an expert

Why is the plastic wrap black? The US has different colors of wrap. We like the green cause the birds don't peck holes in it
