I'm playing the game to this day. At this point I think I played it so much I know where the alien is going to likely be around though. Even if the locations can change if you got the right tools it's easy enough to fend off and lure away. Even when that's not possible hiding spots are basically "Anything you can crouch behind and circle around." It's the one flaw with the game. That the player can crouch behind something and see the xenomorph, who pretends they don't notice you when clearly your head is poking up. Maybe there's a mod with a "lower crouch behind cover" or something. Actually be behind cover properly and lower down. That's the only solution I can think of. Seeing the alien doesn't help much anyway. It can be heard going STOMP STOMP STOMP when it's about to turn around a table or corner. That's when I scoot aside. You know, for a sneaky bugger he makes a lot of noise. STOMP! HISS! STOMP! HISS!

Well, it chases him off for a while. Otherwise getting spotted gets you killed 99% of the time. I actually like a lot that you can't kill the alien, while he can instantly kill you. This is the way it should be. In other games xenos are just gun fodder, which makes them as scary and menacing as oversized cockroaches.
