Crawler Canyon Presents: One change at a time (RC4WD TF2 Marlin Crawler Edition) aka Part 3

The hands-down best way to figure out whether or not something works is to make the change, then wheel it. More often than not, you can tell within just a few minutes if the change was a positive one. After this, I have both stuff to do, and stuff to undo.

Running well on the klr. Other than the slop it's not bad as is. Suspension is lookin pretty choice for a leafer rig. Steering accuracy should be the new main objective. Just one man's humble opinion. Great work so far. What a transformation. From a 4x4 brick to what now resembles an actual vehicle. 👍

A front shackle flip will get rid of all the front end slop

Enjoyed the video and I’m funny about my wheels, I’ve always gone with black but occasionally I will paint the outer edge yellow or red… what can I say I’m a strange dude some times!

I run the 1.55 RC4WD Goodyear MT/R's on my Blazer. They are 92 mm, same compound as the Iroks on the Marlin.

Much as I like the look of the KLRs, I think that with some tuning the IROKs are just gonna be better at everything. Pulled them apart already, and the foams are the typical RC4WD sofa-cushion firmness. RC4WD foams are closer to yoga block than pillow.

If you're concerned with the welding, why not braze it up? I think it looks good with either the KRL setup, or the Bounty Hunters. The size dilff seemed to be noticeable in the hang-ups. I like the red/black combo, and as you mentioned backed with black it'll look better and I bet darken up a bit.

I've had the silver solder and flux in my "saved for later on Amazon for like a year. I just never get around to buying it.

Can you elaborate a little more on the slop in the front end maybe I'm not paying enough attention but I guess I just wasn't seeing it

The "chino mod" on the leafs, tapering the ends, allows the leafs to rotate slightly in the shackles, allowing for more lateral flex. The o-ring mod does the same. But apparently, when combined the whole leaf assemblies can kinda "flop" side to side under steering throw-- think a 3-link front end with the panhard disconnected. I'm hoping that removing the o-rings will stiffen up the front end a little, and I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of flex to get proper steering angles.

I was just gonna say, "I dunno," but I did some Googling and I think I will be attempting to fabricate something here shortly. it's gonna be a trick to get it on the front axle and not interfere with steering, but I'm gonna go for it just the same.

How did you set up the shocks what weight oil and how much did you fill them up

These needed diff oil, I'm pretty sure it's 7000cst. I fill them as full as they'll go without limiting travel.

A&M Garage has a shackle flip kit that pushes the front axle 4mm forward, that might fix your fender rub. Edit: it's included as part of the bumper.

Much as I love fabricatin' stuff, the temptation to just order that "two birds with one stone" bumper from A&M gets stronger all the time. I can all but guarantee I don't have the skill/ability to weld up tabs that small. I still don't know what all the knobs on the welder do, I'm working with flux core, and would likely just blow the metal to smithereens.

Did you have to get a new drive shaft after the shackle flip?

@@truckguy4205 Yes. It seemed ok at first but after about an hour of running it would fall apart at full droop.
