I love my Predator Krawlers for the damp and slimy Tennessee rocks, roots, and soft dirt especially, but also as an all around crawling tire, even on warm and dry grippy rock. I think the softer compund pairs well with the larger non-siped lugs to give that all around performance. Otherwise with Proline I am sticking with G8. And, mostly due to The Canyon, I'm getting into Jconcepts offerings now.

My advice echoes something you mentioned here but I push towards G8 and that is, pick whatever tread pattern you want as long as it’s G8 you can’t lose. From 100° sandstone terrain I am not a fan of predator.

So proline trenchers or proline swampers in your opinion, I’m looking at both but I don’t know what’s better on the rocks
@Br0rB Жыл бұрын
I run predator compound Super Swampers on my lcg rig, and they hook up like crazy in our Norwegian climate. Being fall here now, and like 10 degrees Celsius, they still do fantastic. I run them with my dual stage, dual compound 3d printed inserts, so side hilling is pretty great as well. The set I sent you is probably state side already, so should hopefully be with you soon. 😊
@Team_ReVolt Жыл бұрын
Do you print your own inserts?
@Br0rB Жыл бұрын
@@Team_ReVoltI do, for my 10th scale and my small scale rigs. I have done several variations and prototypes these last 7-8 months. I have landed on one I really like now, and that I use in my lcg rig, and have sent of to a friend in another part of the country for him to try out. He's been really happy with it too. :) I have also sent a full set of my softs to Crawler Canyon, and they're on their way there as we speak. What I have landed on is a sort of dual stage insert with two different types of filament. A stiffer TPU inner ring, and a very soft tpu outer ring, and I have a few options for the inner and outer, depending on rig weight. The ones I sent to the Canyon are the soft/medium inner, soft outer. We'll see if they work as well for him as they do for my friend and I. Lately I have been working on an outer for the Injora red dual stage, using that heavy, hard red inner ring of theirs, for smaller tires. Seems to do quite well so far. :) You can see the insert in action in one of my latest KZbin shorts, with the blue and orange cliffhanger bodied rig.

I 'm gonna check that out. Temps in Belgium are very different then in California but not so much different than in Norway. I wonna/gonna start printing inserts for Tusks and Ruptures. And hopefully find something good for my Klerms. I work from the havy injora ring as a base for them.
@Br0rB Жыл бұрын
@@Team_ReVolt Yeah, Norway and Belgium is definitely closer in climate than either is with California. It's fall here now, leaves are turning yellow, and it's raining several days a week. Temperature is anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees, so not very warm. If you have a 3D printer I'd encourage you to try. In my experience it will take a bit of tweaking to figure out the TPU stuff. Mind you, I was a complete beginner when I figured I'd try to print inserts. If you have experience 3D printing, it'll probably go a lot smoother, and not waste as much filament that I did in the beginning. 😅 So far I have been focusing on 4.75 tires, mainly to have something that works for my Proline tires, and my friend is also running 4.75s. The Injora outer I have done is for 4.45, mounted in my Injora knock offs of the Super Swamper, a surprisingly nice tire, albeit small. Printing with TPU can be a bit tricky, especially the soft stuff. I use Fiberlogy Fiberflex 30D, which is less than 80A shore hardness, for the outer ring. It basically feels like a soft ruber band. And I use just some cheap 95A for the inner ring. You can get away with a regular bowden extruder for 95A TPU, but for the really soft stuff, you'll need a direct drive extruder. I have just been using a really cheap direct drive extruder off of AliExpress, and it's not great. Really hard to get a decent print with the softest TPU. I have a better on one the way, and have paused printing until that's in place. I did manage to print like 6-7 sets already though, plus quite a few sets for 1.0" wheels.

Been watching your tests lately and loving them. What wheels are those and the orange/gold ones you have been using lately?
@CrawlerCanyon8 ай бұрын
The cheapest Amazon has to offer. When I'm shopping for the "test wheels," there are a few basic criteria: "standard" SLW-style changeable hubs, alloy rings, and 6-bolt backs. I don't look for one brand over another, really. I need economical, because I have to put them together and take them apart dozens of times, which wears out the cheap wheels. They're honestly only good for maybe 50-60 cycles. On Amazon, HYBDX, Globact, COOWOO, MoHero, and GoolRC are often the cheapest, with GoolRC tending to be the low-price leader amzn.to/49B33G9. The all-orange test wheels are GoolRC, and at the time ran me around $21 a set.

I’ve driven these predator trenchers and predator hyrax in 113-116 air temp and they definitely didn’t handle it well. Like Wagyu beef they just started to melt on the rock and feeling those tyres vs a fresh set the rubber feels to have changed. I do have a couple sets on 2.2 U4 cars and they actually seem to hold up pretty well with crawler innovations dual stage foams, no noticeable difference in wear between the pred and the g8 at this stage.

You're gonna have to talk to the algorithm-- any time I put out a short, it's like fishing. I'm testing the water to see how the algorithm is handling "impressions," which is how people that aren't subscribed find my channel. Getting new viewers is because unless the magical AI decides to show a channel, no one will ever find it. This week alone I've found two crawler channels that I've never heard of, and both are in the 2k-3k sub range. The only way to get more views is to get more impressions, and the only way to get more impressions is to get more views. I've never tried to cast to a TV, honestly. I watch Shorts on my desktop all the time.

I've ran Trencher Predators with 3Bros at all of our comps this year. No complaints at all regardless of the southeastern temps. Also don't see the incredible wear you speak of. BTW Love the channel.
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
I equate comp crawling to "regular" crawling the same way I would track driving to street driving. How many minutes would you guess you're operating a rig at a given comp? Would you say it's even an hour for a day of competition? This was an... uh... spirited discussion that would often come up in road cycling. Someone would say, "Oh, these tires are the best, I've been using them for 2 years, never gotten a flat." And I would say, "But how many miles are on them?" And they would invariably give some small-ish three digit number. Yeah, if a bike tire is rated on it's performance over a few hundred miles, they can all be pretty great. I was wearing a rear tire out every 3-4 months. So when I would have Tire A showing cords after 3,300 miles, but Tire B is falling apart at 1,200, there was no performance differential that could justify it. Were this one of those Motor Trend long-term tests of say a Canyon Trail vs. anything Predator, we can all see the outcome already. Anything super exotic is definitely here for a good time and not for a long time, and I'm still not willing to embrace that philosophy at $34 a pair. I'm still waiting for China to stumble into hyper-exotic compounds, so we can get a set of tires that are a step above liquid rubber, which will wear the tread off in a matter of hours, but can be bought on AliExpress for $20 a set.

I've yet to see a ProLine tire (or any tire for that matter) that provided what I would call a "level of grip commensurate to their price point." They're all just a little bit too expensive, and ProLine seems all to willing to... lead the charge, as it were. At a certain point, you just can't buy more grip. I firmly believe that these tires did this well because they lucked into absolutely perfect conditions. They should be here awhile, so I'll have the opportunity to see how they hold up. These tires have every opportunity to change my thoughts on ProLine, but that is a (no pun intended) uphill climb. Fully outfitted Canyon Trails are about $75. These are about $130. And we all acknowledge that they aren't twice as good. They're much better. Let it be known-- if JConcepts turned around and started selling Tusks or Megalithics for $34 a pair, ProLine would have some company.

Every $5000 you spend in drag racing doesn’t shave off a full second, but when you get down into the single digits every 0.10 is significant.
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
@@durden.tyler537 things like Predator compound are inarguably power creep. Worse than that, they give the unsuspecting the idea that they can buy performance. If I was doing competitive divisions, the first thing I'd institute is a spec tire class. Somebody new wants to get into comps, finds out the "top guys" have $100 bolted onto each corner. When it comes to drag racing, bracket racing FTW. Separate the skills from the wallet. Unless it's corporate sponsored. Then I say bring back the 1/4, give them variable downforce, and go for it.

Trenchers are great unless you get any type of wet mud in the treads. They don't clear out well and are basically useless in those conditions. Stock foams, as stated, are pretty garbage. Add some 3d printed inserts and steer clear of the mud holes and you'll have a ball. Definitely a set up for those with a bit deeper pockets
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
I feel like I've tested so many tires now that I can tell at a glance what's not gonna like wet. Trenchers are there with tires like JCon Scorpios and Duratrax Scalers-- once they got that mud, they GOT THAT MUD.

@CrawlerCanyon I will say that the Duratrax Fossil (which I bought on your recommendation) do like to get clogged with mud, but are far more functional than the trenchers in that situation.
