My definition of "quick" might not fall in line with others. But I've got you know, things to say. I call these a "quickview" because it covers unboxing and initial testing. It does not speak to durability, longevity, etc.
This is the "quick" review of the 9imod 3542 1400kv outrunner.

Running the same motor w/ a Rhino ESC on 3s on my Injora LCG on AR44 axles. Super impressed. Great low end, great drag break, great holding power on beers. All in all very happy with my purchase.

Do you need an arduino for the rhino or does it come with a way to program it?

It comes with a dongle and a QR code to download the programming software. You just plug into a laptop. I’m using the same $200.00 laptop that is used in the video. Overall, pretty simple process.

I'm running the same 3542 motor (Surpass branded) in the 2250kv variety paired with a Lizard Ten on 3S. You're spot on about the sound. These do sound good as outrunners go...and that 2250kv screams at full beans.

The Gelementade Trailbuffalo runs the same motor but with Surpass branding. The torque and drag brake of that motor hooked me on outrunners. Edit: I've been running mine on 4s, no troubles.

I own the flashhobby turbos(all of them lol) and have been tremendously pleased with the line as a whole. I believe all your drag brake woes come from the gearing of this particular rig and not the esc/motor combo. Not being salty, that motor is quite nice and is obviously an improvement in the Blue Sky application. But I run a 1100kv 2826 turbo on 4s 11 tooth pinon through a damn Capra trans (notoriously bad gearing) and buddy, she's got the brake and the torque. On a 3 gear trans its locked. The 2826 is honestly the size of ten nickels in a stack. 55 grams but the density is there. Provided the gearing is correct.

I have the 9imod 3542 1850KV, and it works really well, even on the 10BL120. Decent speed, plenty of torque, and like you said, it's really quiet. Once the snow clears, and that seems to take forever this winter, I'll make sure to get it paired with the Rhino I have sitting on my workbench and give it a try outside. Looks really promising from watching the video.

I'm using a rhino with my HH revolver v3 1800kv and it's amazing. So slow. Much better control than the mamba micro X2 which kept fouling up and would just hum and the motor and wires would heat up really bad.

I may have to try out one of these outrunner motors. I like the looks of the crawlability and the sound it makes is pleasantly surprising! The problem I have now going back to an ESC and motor is that I have been introduced to the HW Fushion Pro and SE systems and I am now in love with them!! Don't know if I can make myself go back!

The area I'm in is virtually Tamiya free. We're down to tow hobby shops total (each 30 miles from me) and they're Tamiya-free. I was about to say that Amain is my only real option, then found a pack on Amazon for 15 bucks and will actually be able to gear that thing down. Finally.

Will this motor work with any brushless esc? I've developed a preference for sensored brushless systems and the fusions changed the game for me, so I have never really looked at out runners, besides, I've never liked the whine they make. This 9imod may well change my mind and I have a spare hobbywing 10bl60 that was abandoned because the sensor system was faulty!
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
Well, it will work, but the whine you don't like will be REALLY bad. Outrunners really need a specific ESC to run them-- for instance, a Coppehead will run an outrunner and I have no complaints about the performance on the rocks, but the sound is not survivable. It's more than a little annoying. I've also run an outrunner on a HW 10BL120, and it worked fine. But that sound.

my 9imod 1850kV scream at 80% Throttle. i tested different settings on the rhinoESC but didnt helped. Sine mode works good at level 4, level 5 is to much heat coming out of the esc. i run on 4S. 3S no difference. Anybody have an idea? Variable PWM maybe?
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon 5 ай бұрын
Take off the pinion gear. Give it 80% throttle. What's the howl level? Typically, outrunners are going to be noisier than their inrunner counterparts, but IME most (to all) of the noise coming out of a rock crawler is gear noise. Get that motor under load, and it gets loud. I have outrunner setups that range from whisper quiet to absolute howlers, and the difference is usually what rig they're bolted into. The body really plays into that as well. Personally, as long as I'm not getting obnoxious noises at crawling speeds, I'm good. It can be a banshee at full throttle.
@Alexauscelle
@Alexauscelle 4 ай бұрын
@@CrawlerCanyon i ran it outside a rig and in a rig. It's brutal loud. Same with the Furitec Python X. My Crawlmaster Mini V2 make it quiet until 100%, than there is a high frequency noise. Maybe it is the motor. Your combo is quiet, you would have it.

Isn't enough the power of 3532 series? Do we really need the power of the 3542 serie? 3532 comes in 1470, 1850 and 2050 KV
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
Really depends on the weight and layout of the rig. The 1400kv 3542 has almost three times the power of the 1470kv 3532, for a weight penalty of about 70g. So in terms of power-to-weight, the 3542s are way ahead. But if you're watching every gram, that would tell me that you're building something light/ultra-light, so I'd go with the 3532. I'd also go with something MUCH smaller than a Rhino, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

@@CrawlerCanyon I have a Rc element enduro with YFGRC frame (seen in other your video). My rig is 2.77 kilos complete, and at the moment has stock motor with hobbywing quickrun 80A esc. Which motor 9imod would you suggest me for a 360° use? Why not a rhino? I was for get that combo.. Thank you
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
@@ricky_rage Oh, that's no lightweight so a Rhino would be just fine. That's probably around Yella's weight, and he runs a 1650kv 3530 with zero issues. If you're running 3S, I would say the 1850 or the 2050 (you can always gear the 2050 down a few teeth) and the 1470 for 4S. I'm thinking of at least testing the 1470 3532 in Yella on 4S just to see how it feels compared to the Brood 1650kv he has now. Those Surpass/9imod motors are smoooooooth.

@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon 5 ай бұрын
I mean... you could-- I think every AM32 I've seen has been either 2S-4S or 2S-6S-- but a 1400 on 2S is gonna be slow. Outrunners are really 3S-4S stuff. Or 6S, even.

You be able to run an outrunner on a 10BL60. I've run one on a 10BL120, and it definitely qualifies as operational... but it sounds horrific, and is not nearly as smooth as something AM32 based. They're hit and miss, but the Flash Hobby 35A controllers are cheap and work... when they work. I've gotten two good ones, one kinda sorta okay one, and one dead one, so they're definitely a "get what you pay for" situation.

But don't you want good Wheels speed and low end torque
@CrawlerCanyon
@CrawlerCanyon Жыл бұрын
Nothing has low-end like an outrunner, so torque is no problem. I'm "semi-future-proofing," as the lower-kV motors are really better suited to 4S, but most of my direct-power servos are 3S-limited. Meaning, I would probably go for that 1800-2000 range if I intended on staying with 3S forever, but the Rhino ESC can handle 8S-- so any outrunner rig has every chance of getting "volted up" in the future.
