We the fans ain't talking about the head highs, sure penalise the head highs but have some common sense, when Tetesco is falling into tackle the tackler has less than a split second to miss him so why should him and his team be punished, when a player tackles around the ball and the arm goes up and clips the chin, accidental head highs shouldn't be punished, if we the fans can see infractions in the moment why doesn't the bunker see it and send message to ref straight away instead of letting play go on for 5 tackles and then going back and calling a penalty, Refs and bunker have to much power in the game. As far as Covid goes, if he was running a small business he would have been like everyone else, power less, lets be honest about that.

@@deodrasshelios7957 you seem as confused as Kenty, Crawley and Hooper. Not one player is for head highs, and they certainly don’t train to tackle the head. The players are unhappy over the lack of engagement by the NRL to involve key stakeholders (the players) in bringing change (that change being harsher enforcement of head highs, 6 again rule etc). In any organisation, when major change is introduced, there must be buy in from all involved. Rugby league is a product where the key stakeholders include the players, the fans, the sponsors and everyone associated in running the clubs. Look up organisational change, the body of literature on it is massive, which is why I’m surprised that people who claim to be in the know, lack the basic knowledge of how to run an organisation like the NRL. Peter V’Landys is not a general passing orders down a chain of command for them to be obeyed blindly by the troops. Sorry, this is a different type of organisation.

@@allanwysocki6234 you are wrong, the new rules are killing the game. Blatant head highs have always been punished. Penalties for initially hitting the shoulder and slipping into the head should be fair game, what do you expect to happen when two 100kg + athletes smash into each other ? It happened between Saifiti and Tapau at the weekend and they were grinning like Cheshire cats, they loved it. The very small risk of dementia (which a player may or not have succumbed to anyway, regardless of playing footy) is fair trade for the salary and lifestyle players get to live during their physical prime. Countless players have said they would happily sign wavers excluding them from future legal action if it means they can play the game they love. And they would also all play the game if you told them they would have dementia at 70. Who’s to say they would live to see 70 anyway ? If dementia is your argument then you shouldn’t be in favour of the game existing at all because since the shoulder charge was banned I have seen more players concussed from being forced to tackle low then I ever saw pre the shoulder charge being banned. So if you are so worried about dementia you should be campaigning for the game to be banned completely.

So by your explanations Ray, if my client is limited to tackle low and NRL has evidence that players who tackle low like Boyd and Friends get serious injury then it is safe to say that V’Landy and NRL knowingly put my client (player in question) in danger. - V’Landy sped up the game knowing it lead to fatigue - V’Landy limited my client to tacking low - V’Landy and NRL knew that tacking low may result into neck injury - NRL was reckless and they put the safe of players at risk just for scoreboard to look 34-50.

It killed Darrell Eastlake and and he only called the game. The people leading the research have said they can not actually tell if it's the head knocks causing it all the time. The stuff that was coming out a few years ago when the world first started losing their minds was delivered in a very sensational way. In actual fact, they really can't tell one way or the other. For the record, I am actually happy about players hitting eachother in the head less frequently. I just feel sorry for the blokes that do try to tackle low and end up tackling nothing but head when the attacker slips over. No one has an issue with the send off incidents. The players don’t have an issue with them. They (and the fans) have an issue with 1) coming back for a penalty for a minor incident 4 tackles ago 2) the ones that no one in their right mind believes puts a player in danger. The ones where it’s not direct shoulder to head contact. That first contact has been chest area and arm slides up. It’s not a penalty and no player is in danger. The refs have shown complete lack of feel for the game and what’s being asked. Those incidents are all that people have issue with. Stop penalising those beyond ridiculous ones, and sin binning some of those, and everyone will be fine. The two Radley sin bins were right, the report for the hit on Coates is where players and fans have the issue. The sooner the media and powers that be wake up to that, the sooner this gets resolved.

I will bet my life that the ray Hadley's, Paul Kent's, Ben ikins and alike will still be mesmerised and support and follow the game religiously even if it was oz tag.. Maybe they should add some more rules like, if a player stays down after a presumably high tackle or crusher should have their HIA or whatever assesment done on field and then be taken straight off and not be allowed back on field after a 5min or 10min period...and also if a player takles low (first contact) they have to play the ball infront of him not at the back to get the quick plays. Most of the times when players go low opponents end up over them and stands up to play the ball. Defenders wont even make it back to 1st marker. Maybe that might help. Players wont stay down if they are not really concused and also players would tackle low to stop the quick play the ball. Just my point of view.

Ask any fan when you look for old footage of players (Benji side step or Brett Kenny weaving through defences) and games on youtube, the vast majority of people are looking at tries being scored or a skills montage of a player. Thats the nucleas of the game not the late tackles or careless high tackles. So any old timer arguing this tears at the fabric of the game is completely out of touch. For them its a case of needing to change and people do not like change because suddenly you're not going to be as right as you were and take the time to investigate before talking. There is enough evidence out there to suggest V'Landys is doing the right thing. No-one knows anything for 100% but you have to look at a scenario and use all of the evidence available to you to come to the best course of action. In alot of the cases shown in the background, its obvious that the player doing the tackling has a clear view of what he's doing and where hes going to hit the attacking player. So its the tackling players responsibility to not make contact with the head. The mentality has to change, we know better so we have to do better. If players want to leave .. so be it, we will have a better more sustainable product in the long term. In many cases its not an issue of the concussion, its an issue of being told No. There are alot of entitled people out there who need a big dose of reality.

love the game and I hope they sort it out very soon, Otherwise, the worst-case scenario is, (Europe is seriously fucken doing it) in other countries, the connection between contact sports concussion and the increased chance of dementia, depression and suicide, has been proven. and governments in some of these countries have been forced to step in because neither the clubs, players and/or sports board could not be shown to have duty care to themselves, to their players. anyone that has taken a safety induction in Australia should be able to answer this basic question; who is responsible for safety? a, you b, supervisor c, owner of the company d, everyone They are creating new tax and insurance categories for contact sports, just like they do for boxing and MMA. (Remember in an MMA/boxing fight night there are maybe 10 fights on the card, That's all most one AFL team) Then the killer blow if the government has to make stand for duty of care for children/minors; no public schools will be permitted/allowed to play and/or provide facilities to support this sport. any child/minor under the age of 17 can not apply for a license to practice without the witnessed signed consent of their parents/guardian.

@@danielkelly4487 Fair point but they aren't "ruling out an illegal play" head highs have always been illegal. They are just penalising incidental and accidental contact to the head more severely with the sin bin/on report. My question is why are "accidents" like friendly fire head clashes and low tackler knock outs accepted by both Union and League? But I accept your point that if the crackdown does minimise concussions that's a good thing. My feeling is that if the cause of CTE is mainly due to these accepted accidents, cracking down on head highs will have little long term impact. I wonder if Steve Mortimer "lost his brain" because he was illegally targeted with head high shots or just the mundane accumulation of the low tackles he had to do due to his stature and position.

These guys call themselves journalists yet they haven't researched what their talking about. If they did, they'd see that the stats show the majority of HIA's comes from tacklers going low and catching a hip, or knee to the head. To make things worse, they're actually promoting this type of tackle, stop going high and go down low, so U can get knocked out lol. The problem here is the refs are judging accidental head highs as deliberate, and they're not. A tackling defender, who is centimetres away from a ball runner like Tadesco, who likes to duck trying to avoid the tackler coming high, can't change his position if he doesn't know what the other guy is going to do and duck's on u. Or an arm bouncing up off the runner's ball carrying arm, accident's will happen, it's a contact sport, and they should be penalised on field, they shouldn't be sin binned, nor on report. Deliberate head highs, yes, it's always been the rule, but accidental ones can only be stopped if u actually change the game to an oztag league for the pro's. That way there's no accidental head highs, and no low tacklers getting KO'd, everyone safe. And the most boringest games ever to watch lol.

The NRL need to also be ensuring they're advertising to parents that 1st Grade is NOT what their kids play on the weekend. The game has invested millions in ensuring the game, its rules and the style of play at the junior level is as safe as can be. Yes, concussion, tackling practises and HRE is important, and ensuring that we minimise concussions are extremely important but rugby league isn't a game for everyone. Part of the spectacle of the sport is the physical battle. We can still have a physical battle whilst maximising player safety, but the idea that we have to pander to those on the fence is ludicrous.
