So football tickets were free years ago and we just used the games as a social gathering. People were kinda surprised if something interesting ever happened on the field. Kinda rare, but yeah that can happen. Example - you are 1st & 10 at your own 30, you run the ball 20yds to midfield for a 1st down. But wait - there was a hold at the 36 that helped you make that big gain. Marching it 10yds back from the flag takes it to the 26 and replay the down. That gives 1st & 14 from the 26.

"Meeting with the knee" used to be explicitly a personal foul. It still is if you *strike* an opponent with the knee, but maybe meeting with it isn't ruled as striking with it. It should be.

The White hat explained it pretty well I thought. The ball is intercepted in the Endzone (EZ) Who put it in there? - the forward pass by other team. So if he had taken a knee or was tackled, it'd be a Touchback because it was not his teams "fault" that the ball ended up dead in the EZ. But he decides to run it out into the field. So that responsibility on the other team is wiped out, it's gone now. He fumbles and the ball rolls back into the EZ. The "reason or fault" for the ball travelling from the field back to the EZ was his fumble. If you put the ball into your own EZ and it ends up dead in your possession, that's a Safety.
