@JM Baseball Come on, Trev. Manaea's a decent MOR but nothing more than that. Last 14 starts: 4.05 ERA. Last 10 regular season starts, 3.79 ERA, 4.03 FIP, 4.06 xFIP, 4.08 SIERA and as ordinary as that was, it required a .191 BABIP which was historically low even for a 10 start run. Greg Maddux in his four Cy Young seasons had a BABIP of .260, and I didn't find a run of 10 starts where Maddux had a BABIP below .221. Was Manaea far better than peak Doggie? Did he _earn_ that remarkable BABIP? Of course not. He was astoundingly lucky the last 1/3 to 1/2 of the year and *_even then_* he couldn't do more than a 3.79 ERA in what everyone is lauding as some kind of "breakthrough," which it obviously wasn't. Serious question: Do you really not know how to do two minutes digging into a player's stats when he seems to be playing above his talent level? You've got to know these things.

@KP-05 There's a long running joke that Rickey never remembered ANYONE'S name. There's a famous story that On a bus ride w/the Padre's Phil Neven said Rickey I'll give you 100$ for every person on this bus you can name and Rickey stood up and said F** you PHIL! And everyone laughed or when Olerud signed w/the Mariners he asked why he wore a helmet in the field and when he explained to him that he had an aneurysm in college. He said man I had a teammate in New York like that! And he said *"Rickey....that was me😑"* (who knows what's truth & Urban legend because olerud when asked about it said the trainer made that up😂)

I don't think you're delusional. When he started against the Dodgers in the postseason (his performance notwithstanding) I found myself justifying to others why the Mets were going with him. When he's healthy he's one of the best strikeout pitchers in the game.

Loved Bill James line about if you cut Rickey in half you'd have two Hall of Famers. Rickey was a lot more controversial when he was playing than people want to recall, and his all time SB record was met with a collective yawn, and sympathetic embarrassment for that photo of Rickey hoisting the base over his head, but at his peak he was as good as anyone in his era. Imagine where he would have been in the pantheon if he'd been able to play CF. The positional adjustment alone gets him past Mantle and easily into 4th best CFer all time. He's still not Mays (who probably divides into THREE Hall of Famers given his peak) but no one was more interesting to watch than Rickey in his prime.
@MikeRBurchКүн бұрын
Rickey Henderson was the greatest leadoff hitter of all time, without peer. He was as indestructible as Pete Rose, but even better at getting on base (OBP), much faster and more athletic, and with more power. And they departed earth together, in 2024.

"Ranger won the world series by hitting freaking homers" fuck no we won in 2023 because Eovaldi and Monty locked in, and Leclerc and Sborz were untouchable, the disrespect my god. I'm tired of it, the ranger won because they played better baseball, had great pitchers, had bullpen guys who managed to turn it on when it mattered, obviously hit well, and had the best defense in baseball, we weren't some undeserving franchise that just mashed our way to victory.

I don’t say this to be argumentative whatsoever. Like, I could be wrong here but I feel like Trev is way too high on Houston. Not sure how they lose their best hitter besides Yordan, most likely are losing Bregman and Altuve is regressing ever so slightly and this guy still says they’re the 3rd best team in the AL. Feels wrong. Verlander is cooked too.
@acelm8437Күн бұрын
As a Rangers fan I don't think you can count Houston out until they actually miss the playoffs, but at the same time they only finished 3 games ahead of Seattle and got knocked out by the Tigers who were just happy to be there. Manaea Senga and Peterson are all guys that could give the Mets 180 IP and a 2.80-3.50 ERA if healthy. Sure ur depending on them to be healthy but thats exactly what the Phillies have done for years, they have no depth after their top 4. If Montas and Holmes can be what Sevy and Quintana were last year our rotation is perfectly fine and they’re certainly still in on Sasaki and a trade for Castillo or someone else is still on the table. The Braves rotation is just as uncertain. Strider is coming off TJ and let’s not act like a 3.86 ERA in his only full season Cy Young level of impressive. Sale is 35 with a long injury history. Reynoldo Lopez is probably not gonna miraculously put up a sub 2 ERA again. Like they could have a top 5 rotation or rotation that isn’t top 15 and you could say the same thing about the Mets. It’s just not as certain as the Dodgers or Phillies.

I think theyll fight with Baltimore for 2nd in the AL East and 5th-7th overall in the AL
@markzuckergecko6212 күн бұрын
Yankees and Orioles are clearly the top dogs, probably Yankees in 1st again. The rest of the division isn't so clear.
