Nice and honest review of this product. This might be the solution to connect a TV with only an HDMI output to a vintage receiver in a basement. I tried all kind of HDMI/ARC to analog converters with no results, just humming and no sound, I switched receivers with the same results. I'll wait for a sale and get it. Thank you.

Thank you so much for reviewing this, Randy. I bought one for $80 long before Prime Deal Days, so I assume this thing will be on sale frequently. I got it without having a use for it, but like you said, it’s kind of a catch-all device that is handy to have around. You never know when it could service a need. I also have a Fosi BT20A that is unused, so I think they’d be good friends down the road. I really appreciate that you didn’t just phone in your take on this device. Considering its versatility (great dorm room AIO) and the remote, PLUS a thoughtfully designed app, I really feel like this could cost more. It’s like a landlord who doesn’t know they could be charging twice as much, but you never bring it up. BTW, their tech/rep folks have been surprisingly responsive. Big props for that. Finally, during your sponsor segment, there was a moment where you were giving off Bill Pullman vibes during his speech toward the end of Independence Day. _”We’re going to live on. We’re going to survive. We’re going to enjoy quality bluetooth speakers!”_

Funny - I’m pairing a BP50 and BT20A Pro in the living room with Definitive Tech BP-8 speakers. It’s decent. I do feel that if I had it to do over again I’d pay the premium for something better, but give that these were $80 a piece and I bought them over time it’s pretty impressive. HDMI arc is MUCH better than Bluetooth (the Bluetooth connection is pretty terrible).

I have the BP50 for about a month now. For the money it is a great device. I like the multiple connection options. Despite a little pop every now and then when switching on/off or changing inputs it works flawlessly with a good sound quality. If you're looking for a small pre-amp with enough options I definitely reccoment the BP50

Thanks for the review, Randy! I bought a BP50 about a month ago and it has been serving me well. For my use case, I needed something that would allow me to connect my work Macbook and my personal gaming PC to my system. I really wanted a preamp that could handle multiple digital inputs, and had a sub-out. Bluetooth RX/TX is a bonus that I didn't realize I needed, but it sure comes in handy when I don't have to keep swapping my BT connection between computers. My desk setup consists of the BP50, a Fosi V3 powering a pair of KEF HTS3001SE speakers and the matching HTB2 sub. My home office has never sounded so nice! I do notice the popping issue if the system has been running for a bit and I flip the power switch. My workaround is to put in standby first if I need to power cycle (sometimes my Mac doesn't want to recognize the USB connection). Either hit the power button on the remote or push and hold the volume dial and the STBY indicator will turn red. Then flip the switch. Not as easy or convenient, but it works, and NO pops.

Thanks CAM! I struggled to find a media console cabinet to fit all our AV gear, including the center channel speaker. Most cabinets are simply not deep enough for full scale AV receivers. It took mods to make a Wayfair cabinet work. This Arylic unit could help bring an old Denon UD-M30 CD Receiver in the closet back to life!

@eddents Жыл бұрын
Yes, once you add in the length of the cables plugged in, cutting out the back is about the only option to make gear fit. Our cabinet is up against an open railing in a split level stairwell for all the world to see. I had to stain the back to make it look presentable and created a french cleat door to hang over the open cut out I made, so no cables show. The cool thing it is so easy to get access to the connectors! No need to pull out the receiver (except to dust - yeah right lol) @@cheapaudioman

Thx Randy! Here's a new budget TV DAC killer - SMSL PS100 for just $30! Has HDMI ARC, SPDIF, COAX, USB-C, Blutooth inputs and SE RCAs for output. Uses the same Sabre ES9023 DAC chip, but people have reviewed it pretty well so far. I'm ordering mine today, just released in August this year. From what I hear it supports adjusting volume through HDMI ARC on it, must have some preamp functionality than, no remote though. I'm planning to pair it with SMSL AO100 AMP for $78 (used from Amazon) that has a remote as well and enough power to drive 2 passive speakers for a TV, also has subwoofer outputs and uses an Infineon Power amp chip! Pretty excited, this would be a perfect TV DAC for cheapaudioman to review ;)

Before watching this, I ordered one of these to SPDIF teather it to my car audio MiniDSP which can mix any / all inputs including analog with digital. This allows me to bypass my head unit chain which is Looooong... (Head Unit - Digital - Bose DAC - Bose xover - Bose Amp - Line level adapter - re-mix xover breakouts back to stereo, dsp it, then re-xover it - out to an amp.) While the above chain is the status quo for upgraded car audio, this BP50 ahould allow direct injection of digital media to the high end miniDSP for ultra clean bi amplification.

Hi, there are 3 importants rulles. 1. when powering on gear first will be preamp/streammer and last will be the amp. 2. shutting down gear:first power off amplifier. 3. never unplug or plug in anything with gear powered on. Bonus: tv must be completely powered off(not standby) when plugging or unplugging hdmy to any gear. Regards

If you have a Hisense TV, HDMI to optical out is a lifesaver. The TV suffers from a “tinny” issue when you optical out in stereo/PCM. Plus, only options I know of like this with HDMI for stereo are the Blusound node and McIntosh with D2 add on.

One area where I think this is really not considered......with a few other connections, you can convert B-Speakers on 7.2 channel receivers into basically Bluetooth enabled audio from your receiver. So if you are watching the game inside, and need to head out to tend to the grill, you still get the audio to Bluetooth enabled speakers outside. Or ..... broadcast stereo audio to the dining room from the receiver.

I like the review on this device, (question) can you do a shootout comparison with similar products, slightly above and slightly below for a side by side comparison. I'm making a shopping list for Black Friday and Cyber Monday and a couple of Cheapaudioman shootouts would definitely be appreciated by myself and I think many of your followers. I'll be watching for more like this one. It's one of the items on my list, I passed on it during the last sale, still looking at other options, your reviews helped me a lot. Most other KZbin videos are for high end equipment only, which is fine and I watch them also, but most of the time, what they are reviewing is out of my and many of my friends budget. And one more request, can you suggest a 2.0 or 2.1 system for about $300 that sounds okay, and maybe a better system for $500,or just under $1000 with different components to pick from. Just a request. Thanks again for all you do.

COM- great podcast! I’m intrigued as to whether this would benefit by second system that centers on a 1974 Pioneer SX737 receiver that drives Wharfedale EVO 4.2s. 99% using Sonos Port via Aux. Old Turntable is in Phono and Cassette deck (never used) in Tape 1 and LG TV (0.5%) in Tape 2. Problem is volume control from the couch. I can use SONOS phone app to control its volume. If I got the Acrylic and connected the turntable and Sonos to it, then Acrylic to the SX737 AUX, w/ remote I’d have more volume control, tone controls, some EQ. And I get the option of adding a SUB (have SB-1000Pro destined to be sold, if I could find a place to put it)! Other than $80-100 spend see any downsides? Can’t use eArc since my LG is connected to AVR that runs the HT setup that is side by side in the same room (maybe the TV Optical out to the Acrylic, if the TV doesn't object)???

Picked one of these up as it sounded perfect for my use case. Unfortunately it has a couple of bugs that make it not worth it for me. The audio cuts out randomly and only a power cycle of the unit fixes it. It also has bad audio quality for the first couple of minutes when starting up. I ended up making a post on their forums about it and other people said these issues are present in the B50 as well. Needless to say I would avoid getting one if you're considering it. If they were to come out with a firmware update to address these issues then it would be great but the response from support was that they don't have any currently and more or less asked me if I plugged it in right. If you're reading this spend a bit more and get something reliable.

I don't want to have multiple separate devices like a preamp, DAC, and and streamer (or more) because I don't want an empty yogurt cup filled with remote controllers next to my furniture. Part of the cost of all in one wonder boxes like the Eversolo DMP-6 is that everything is in one box, so I only need one remote. Having a power amp separate from the rest is fine, because it can be set to auto-trigger on input, but I don't want to have 3+ remotes for everything else I use. That's worth some dollars in itself, and reason to avoid products like this. Especially ones with no front-end UI.

I have the B50 (amplified version) in my game room and it's....ok-ish? It's connected to my TV via HDMI ARC and it powers on and takes over the sound output like it should MOST of the time. Sometimes you have to wake it up manually and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. The sound from a Bluetooth source is absolutely fine, and it drives my old Paradigm Phantoms with no issue. In the end it seems like a product that you're going to have to fiddle with to get it to do what you want. Fine for my game room, but I wouldn't depend on it as a foolproof solution for my living room where my wife and kid just expect it to work perfectly every time.

probably not. maybe a pair of the kids shorts. I feel zero need to clean up the house for videos. I have kids and I'm not pretending to be anyone that I'm not. Confidence... perhaps laziness on my part
