I love that you’re giving Battletech a try! It’s my favorite tabletop game and I think it’s potential with Battletech aces making it potentially coop with your friends! Thanks for all your sharing of the hobby!

Always interested in seeing new giant robot games. I guess the question you have to ask is: "What would I like to see in a giant robot game that isn't in any game already available?" (this is a question I've been asking myself, and trying to come up with a coherent answer).

Someone at my local store had been playing Battletech: Override that combines elements of Classic and Alpha Strike. That might be worth a look.

I find that 4v4 games of Alpha strike are the minimum number of units where the game shines. Any smaller and the abstraction comes at odds with the more limited tactical and strategic choices of having so few units

I strongly recommend picking up the full Alphastrike Commander's Edition if you get the chance. There are optional damage rules and mech abilities that do help to alleviate your "bummer" quite a bit that I don't think are in the starter rules

Hi from Alberta, Canada! I just played my first Steel Rift game just like a week ago! Was super fun, and love the models.

When a buddy taught me both classic and alpha strike, a little over 2 years ago now, I remember feeling exactly the same that you did about AS removing the details of which weapons are being used. I also missed the location based damage. Feeling stuck between games I felt were either too clunky and crunchy (classic) and a touch too streamlined (AS). Then I kept playing and then I quickly realized that the speed of play really helps me to not care as much. Also, playing with Multiple Attack rolls gives you a similar feeling to firing a lot of weapons. And using things like alternative ammunition and special abilities like Flak and SNARC helps bring some of that weapon personality back. That being said, units do lose a lot of personality now that it doesn't matter that the damage is coming from a PPC or an LRM 20. They both deal 1 damage but in different ways that are invisible to the casual eye.

Penny arcade has a long running Battletech campaign that uses Battletech: destiny for rpg rules and alpha strike rules for battles

If you don't mind 3d printing, I recommend Revelations: Skirmish for some decent mech action.

Thanks for the vid. I was thinking it would be nice if you could do a vid on making a magnetic carry case for miniatures. All the best and thanks for the vid. Hope your year goes very well 😊

Thanks for the tour of your webstore. I had no idea you worked with independent artists for your shirt designs. Ill give it a look

Indeed! Got a few more in the pipe, too. Thanks for watching!

Do you have any experience with Lancer? It proclaims it's "rules-light" but the book seems as dense as a 40k core rules book.

I have a friend who’s played. I was under the impression that it was a roleplaying game. Thanks for watching!

Catching up from yesterday: I would be interested in a video on how you paint your giant robot minis (BattleTech/Steel Rift/whatever).

As I really like mechs and anime Bandai teased a Gundam Tabletop game maybe inspired from Battletech. Some say it is long overdue. Would love to see you checking out

Kind of a late follow up on that rumour about a TCG element to Gundam Assemble: a Gundam Assemble/TCG "Collaboration" youtube trailer came out yesterday (search "Gundam Card Game - Official Gundam Assemble Collaboration Trailer") which shows some folks playing the TCG when one of them dramatically places a miniature on the table, and that seems to be the extent of the "collaboration" between the two games. No footage of the players breaking out a hexmap and dice and playing both the card game and the miniatures game at the same time, you just play a card and place a miniature on top of it.

I know it’s expensive and it’s ’evil empire’, but I like legions Imperialis and you can play knights and titan heavy games using their titan death rules if you like mech games.

Honestly it's great to see you painting mechs. I'm still collecting the Iron Wind sculpts as I personally prefer the older scale. But your work is lovely. Very similar to my own Clan Sea Fox colour scheme. Leadbelcher Spray, contrast Kroxigor Scales, Stormhost silver weapons, bright orange canopy glass.

Gundam is a weird show to get into because now it's a mini-genre into itself. I'd recommend "Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans" since it's a stand-alone series from the rest of them. Also, anyone keep up with MekBorg? I kickstarted it, but haven't really messed around with playtesting it yet. My Battletech minis feel a little over-gunned to fit for that game. Oh, for Battletech lore, check out "The black Pants legions" series "Tex talks Battletech". Imagine if the lore of BattleTech was narrated by an old cowboy.
