hi im a stone carver -first i make scaled down clay or plastersine maketts as a guide before i touch the stone to see if it will work - the model only has to last a few months, then it starts breaking up, i never cared in the past but recently iv started to become fond of the makette - do you use self hardening clay? is there an armature underneath?

Are you able to pull all the paper out before it is fired and do you have problems with trapping air as you layer on the clay?

@jaja1818 I have very little experience in this medium but the clay varies. When I went to class we used water based clay which I assume is your average sculpters clay, however there are others like a mud- looking clay (light brown/red) that people use. And we used a kiln if I am spelling that right to harden the clay which would also burn out the newspaper used to start it. After that we painted some type of bronze base and some copper I think to simulate age. It turned out very impressive.

@TheBren1023 It's not the clay that that gives you skills, it's knowledge and practice. Look into oil-based clay and modelling clay.

i m more impress in wood sculpting cuz it is a lot harder to cut and reshape the error if happens...Clay is easy to reshape if you make mistake but wood, it's hard.

i was wondering if you would tell me , why you are doing some of the things u do when u sculp , like u dont have to break it down , but i know know a few things like , how the top of the ear, is at like eyebrow level , and the bottom is a the nose, things like that, i know there has to be alot of those things. please let me in on some of your secrets . thanks

Your all sculpture has bad eyes .. you need to work more on eyes , all sculptures are good with very bad eyes..
