I hunted the mountains of VA as a kid with my dad. I mostly hunt my own property in central VA and got a nice doe yesterday. I grilled the heart that night and seared the inner loins today for lunch in cast iron using Avacado oil and cajun blackening seasoning. Nothing beats fresh venison. Ive shot 2 deer in the last 8 years that i thought were does but ended up being button bucks, so i know the feeling 😂

I’m a Florida man relocating to Virginia in a few months, so I really enjoyed your video! I have to get up to speed on all the different rules and regulations and not to mention the terrain and different WMA’s. Been hunting in florida for decades and will miss the ample hog hunting opportunities, but I am really looking forward to those beautiful fields, prairies, woods and mountains full of turkey and deer! Also, got tired of the endless marshy wetlands where I have stepped on more than my fair share of gators and moccasins.

It looks like you might be around Galax or Hillsville, VA. When you got into Virginia it looked like you were in l-77 going up through Fancy Gap. I used to spend some time around there and Lambsburg, VA and Mt Airy, NC. And about the spike, been there, done that!

Nice video. One thing: you should make sure that you use somekind of soft cussioning on the rifle when you are on the stand. "Wood on wood" contact can lead to somewhere jumping of the rifle. Some kind of cloth is enough normally.

I fish in the spring and early summer and hunt in the early fall through most of winter. I guess that's why I really appreciate this video because I prefer to watch hunting content during the winter. I wouldn’t beat myself up for shooting a spike. He would most likely always be a spike or some other small rack. That doe will provide more bucks for years to come. That spike would have been my choice to take. Good eating and needs out of the herd. These guys who claim you should shoot more does to have more bucks is a farce. I’ve never seen a buck that didn’t have a doe for a mother. To be clear, I’m not against taking a doe and have taken many over my 60 years of hunting. But given the option, the spike would have been my choice.
