There’s been a lot of goodwill in front of the camera between Di’Anno and Maiden lately. Lots if kind words between both, and that’s great. But I seriously doubt Steve Harris and especially Bruce want anything to do with Paul other than wishing him good health. Paul, to them, has been nothing but a headache. Maybe a live one shot, but I bet that’s a long shot.

One reason I enjoy making up my own CD comps is because I can do an entire CD of just what you guys were describing - things based on certain themes or topics, or whatever. I did one like that with Saga, where I put all of their "story songs" - part 1, part 2, part 3, etc., all on a single CD, up to the point where I couldn't fit any more, as there are a lot.

@cowmark672 жыл бұрын
I like the idea of Ritchie singing for Soundgarden, especially if you want to have them sound similar to the band with Chris. I think it's more likely that Brandi Carlile would be the new singer for Soundgarden since she has performed live with the band and has expressed interest in being their new lead singer (I'm intrigued by the idea). Of course nothing new can happen until the band reaches an agreement with Vickie Cornell, since she currently owns the name, final Chris Cornell recordings and twitter handle for Soundgarden I believe.

For the first 20-odd minutes, I was like, "yeah, that's a good idea, or...". By the end my thought was, "Now I understand why Ricky Nelson wrote 'Garden Party'." 30:00 - That's what Queen were doing in Freddie's last days. He told the others "Keep writing and I'll sing it". That's how at least one song on "Made In Heaven" was done. 33:00 - That's been done before too, with Devo's "Something For Everyone". They picked album tracks based on a "focus group".

The Deep Purple discussion about Ian Gillan singing MK3, MK4 and MK 5 songs live, I am pretty sure he won't. Deep Purple started playing many MK2 songs as soon as Blackmore left, simply because Ritchie refused to play them (When a blindman cries, Ramshackle man, No one came, Demons Eye, Fools)... If a member doesn't want to play a song, the band won't play it. BUT...since it's Gillan who (understandably) won't sing Purple songs done without him, why not drop the instrumental covers of Green Onions (played at every show for years) and the 'Caught in the Act' medley , and replace it with an instrumental medley of MK 3, 4 or 5 songs?

One of Martin's ideas, keeping the vocals and having someone completely re-do the music, was done by David Bowie's estate when they re-did the "Never Let Me Down" album in 2018. Bowie's original vocal tracks and totally new instruments. I think that the results are brilliant. Consider that proof of concept.
@darrendohertymusic2 жыл бұрын
Martin your idea about leaving the vocals and a band writing new music for it has kind of been done once by A Perfect Circle. They made a covers album called eMotive and took famous protest songs (Imagine / Peace, Love & Understanding / What's Going On? / When The Levee Breaks) and rewrote them completely just keeping the lyrics. It's a complete triumph and worth checking out but I think it's a super idea in general. I'd love to hear heavy Hold Your Fire.
@abdulbasheer22072 жыл бұрын
I already commented this same idea earlier on another SoT show, think abt songs we like bands to play live. Get Blackmore, Coverdale, Hughes, Paice and have Airey on keyboards and just do a short tour playing full Burn and Stormbringer albums. They could write one or 2 new songs as well to further promote the concerts.

Here's an idea I have going along with some of Martin's latter ideas: Take songs like "Rock Bottom" by Kiss, "Rescue Me" by Y & T, and "Victims of the Future" by Gary Moore. Each starts in a beautiful, melancholic introduction, before turning into a rip-roaring hard rock track. Great songs. But Kiss, Y & T, and Gary Moore (were he still alive), make a song with the overall sound/vibe of the mellow intro, without ever turning the song into a headbanger.

Keep those ideas coming !!!!

My what-if idea, which I've had for many years, is: What would an Ozzy/Brad Gillis album have sounded like? And before anybody says, "Wimpy," it couldn't get any more AM radio than "So Tired" was on BATM. Another scenario would be: Vinnie Vincent isn't an ego maniac and manages to stay in Kiss. And finally, one that is possible: Ace Frehley digs up all of the 1984-1985 Frehley's Comet demos that he recorded before he put out that godawful first Frehley's Comet album.
@sdrandazzo2 жыл бұрын
Fun topic Pete and Martin! My picks would include Van der Graaf Generator mash up with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett for a fun classic Genesis and VDGG songs, Brian Eno and later King Crimson band redo of 80s and 90s classic KC songs, Fish join with Gabriel and Hackett to belt out those classic Genesis songs and for fun Devo, Neil Young and Crazy Horse studio mashup of their greatest hits.

I think the ultimate "what if" scenario for rock and roll/ music in general would be what happened if The Beatles never broke up? I'm pretty sure Lennon would have never been murdered, we would have gotten a whole bunch more classic albums, and it would have been very interesting to see how they would have changed their sound throughout the decades.
@stuarthecht81962 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely. They would have probably gone a little more prog, since they were heading in that direction on Abbey Road. Wish they had stayed the course!
@b.g.58692 жыл бұрын
Considering the direction the individual Beatles went in musically afterwards, I doubt they would have had much left in the tank. Music in general was going in an unfortunate direction. They were very much a band of their time. I think it's better that they finished without ever doing a genuinely mediocre album. They ended at the peak of their powers. I shudder to think what 80s Beatles music would have sounded like. I think it's for the best that their sound and image is forever stuck in the 60s; I'm glad we don't have images of a 70s Malaise era Beatles or a mid 80s Beatles wearing Miami Vice jackets doing synth pop. It would have diminished their legend. I don't understand how this would have saved Lennon's life either.

Martin and Pete, there's a KZbin channel called "2 Minutes to Late Night" and in the last 2 years they posted a lot of covers of famous (and not so famous) songs in different styles with lot of famous (and not so famous) musicians playing them. For instance, a version of Fleetwood Mac's "You Make Love Fun" with the members of Lucifer and Marty Friedman in a 70's style hard rock. Check it out

What if classic bands could put together albums featuring all instrumentals. Some bands are known for their instrumental songs . Alan Parsons could do one with all of the Project's songs(I Robot, Sirius, Mammagamma, etc. ). Rush was famous for YYZ, La Villa Strangiato, Leave That Thing Alone, Limbo, The theme From Boat People, to name a few. It could be a studio versions album, or Live performances. There are many others that could do the same thing.

I love the Di'Anno idea. Even an EP. He sounded great on the Architects of Chaoz... and with Maiden he wouldn't need to sing so thrashy... he could mine that melodic part of his voice again as well. I thought I would let you guys know that I have already done those Maiden mixes. War, historical, criminal, film/literature, etc. My favorite though is THE mix. This mix consists of only Maiden songs that start with THE and are followed by one word, ie, The Prisoner, The Trooper, The Clansman, The Clairvoyant, The Unbeliever, The Assassin, etc. Iommi/Halford is a great idea as is Iommi/Hughes.

My crazy idea: Santana’s next lead singer should be Jon Anderson. They’re both peace and love guys (though maybe they would have doctrinal differences). That Santana 4 album was great musically, but it needed some better lyrics, and Jon has a talent for writing non-cliched positive lyrics which would suit Santana really well. Jon can still bring it vocally - he was great with ARW. And he’s certainly open to collaborations - he’s done all kinds of them in recent years. I think this one would be a fantastic team-up. Also, I thought this was a fun episode and I’d definitely come back for part 2.

Santana is really more of an identity politics guy than a love and peace guy.
