What do you mean when you smell them and they dont smell??? ive fished down in alabama the last few aprils and never heard of someone smelling a pompano

In navarre we have a bad acorn worm problem that makes Pompano taste like iodine. This worm secretes it and the pompano eat the worm and it ruins the meat.

Did anyone figure out what that worm is? I kept a black drum and found that strange worm in its gills. There werent any signs of worms in the meat.
