Yes, my cooler just plugs into the wall outlet of the truck. It runs off of the truck battery and uses very little energy. It has worked flawlessly since I bought it three years ago. The tarps are approximately 80 - 100lbs.

I would advise you to take your time and learn proper load securement. Always ask for help if you're unsure what to do. Drivers winging it goes badly all of the time.
