I don’t know if you realized but during the first Rhythm X snare solo they weren’t actually playing. The tenors were playing behind the back wall and the snare ghosted the notes.

The snares were actually playing, however they all have a second snare with a mesh head to provide the effect that was shown. They weren’t ghosting the notes, they were still playing like normal

The reason the Vivaldi portions might sound a bit more modern is because the arrangements were based off of the Recomposed versions of the Four Seasons by Max Richter

Not sure if it's been said or if you were already aware, but that cross stick grip is Gary Burton's grip. Using mallet 4 for inner mallet runs is a jazz vibraphone thing. Since mallet 4 plays mostly melody while the other 3 comp, it's easier to just keep using that mallet for two mallet melody work.

Great video! I don’t know if you mentioned this because I skipped the WGI stuff lol (I’m a trumpet player so wgi isn’t really my cup of tea) but the SCV show Force of Nature is based around the four seasons I’m pretty sure. First movement is spring with all of the the birds chirping and a really natural sound with Vivaldi’s spring in the brass. Second movement is summer with the intensity and speed of a thunderstorm. This is probably their most technically challenging movement. Fall is the third movement which is the gorgeous ballad and if you watch an overhead cam you’ll actually see the guard with leaf patterned dresses. Absolutely amazing. Final movement winter is very bright and sparkly with Vivaldi’s winter and snowflake shapes in the marching sections. The very end is a return to spring as a signal that the seasons will repeat. This show is absolutely amazing and it’s is one of my favorite DCI shows ever, as well as my favorite SCV show overall. I discovered it randomly on Instagram a year back and I’ve loved it ever since. Thank you for your analysis and insight, Adam, and if anyone wants to correct anything I said feel free!

Someone else might have already said this: but they don’t play with two grips all the time. Generally the marimbas use stevens (except sections where it makes more sense to use burton like that section with all of the seconds) and the vibes use burton. But... The girl that was center this year was actually missing a finger on one of her hands and had to play burton in that hand because of it. So she played burton in one hand and Stevens in the other

Hey Adam, I have gotten past the stage of developing calluses playing Stevens Grip long ago, but I have the problem that my pinky is extremely sore and painful after barely playing long. It's likely because I grip too hard, but whenever I try to loosen up, it makes it impossible to play normally. Any suggestions?

Hey man, I'd say try taping your mallets with a grippy material like tennis tapes if you haven't already, this will mean you won't have to hold them so tight. Also, you can try practicing rudiments with just your outer mallets on a practice pad to get them looser, I did this a lot !

Hey, would you be interesting in watching a synth cam or two? I'd really like someone's opinion on the instrument, who doesn't really know too much about it. Also, lots of people say that synth is an easy, or even lazy instrument....but they are wrong, lol. There are some really, really epic synth cam videos out there, that I think you would enjoy a lot, even though you don't play the instrument! Anyways, I'm pretty new to this channel. don't know how to submit requests (mostly cause I haven't really looked how to, lol). But I was just wondering if you would be interesting in maybe reacting to a synth cam here and there, since people don't really pay to much attention to the instrument, aside from sound effects and piano solos.
