I usually buy a pack of 4 "Finest" apples from Tesco. The week before last, they were £2.10, last weekend they had a "New" label on them.....the price ....£2.50. They were the same variety and the same number of apples in the pack. The only thing "new" about it was the price! I left them on the shelf.

Here's a good one on prices. My local Tesco recently had a permantly reduced label on the potato salad - Was £1.15 now £1.10 - As a fan of potato salad I can tell ya that 2 years ago that very same potato salad cost 55p. 😡 Half the F*&^in' price!!! And OMFG rant coming!! Red Wine - Shiraz 2003 £5 / 2013 £5.50 / 2020 £6 / 2023 £8.50 WHAAAATTT! Anyway, thank you so much for saving me money after I switched from Lurpac to Nordpac. I feel your pain Paul. Companies no longer even try . There Moto now is "how much can we sell our product for" And not how much do we sell this for. And it seems governments are complicit in it all by trying to claim inflation is at 20 percent. ✌️💯

A lot of what people construe to be preference is simply familiarity. I think of it as a bit like a relationship - sometimes people don't realise what else is out there and hang on to what they know even when it's not necessarily the best choice. I genuinely think that people only prefer Heinz beans and ketchup, specific brands of bread and cheese and fish fingers because they simply don't want to take any risks or don't want to go through the stage of developing a familiarity with that new thing. This, to my mind, is how big brands get away with charging 3 or 4 times the price.

Yep that Nordpac is pretty decent, but no doubt it will increase in price through a groundswell popularity 😁

Food prices are the reason why we shop in Lidl or Aldi these days. We went to a Tesco's the other day, as we were in the area and it made more sense, but even with the club discounts it was still £40 more for a similar shop. The prices in the big supermarkets have gone nuts!

It doesnt end with the prices either, there are some evil things planned for our future. And when you say there's nothing we can do about it, you're partially right. Price is ridiculous. Even if you didn’t take the cheaper option but instead got Old El Paso seasoning pack, mince, 8 tortilla, micro rice, salad, salsa etc you could make the same thing for 4 people with double the portion size for about £8-9ish and it would take you about 15 minutes to prepare.

Not that long ago Tesco and others used to sell a six pack of walkers crisps for £1.50, now they're up to from £1.95 to well over £2 a pack. That is a serious percentage increase per very lightweight pack , I think these companies should be forced to explain exactly what increase in their costs can justify such a price hike. They'll try hiding behind their club card and bonus card deals, but why should somebody only pay a fair price if they buy multiple items? Unfortunately these companies are all in it together, they'll jump on any excuse to raise prices if they believe the nation has accepted that price rises are not only inevitable, but are widely acceptable, we need, somehow to learn how to say NO!

Anything and everything with cheese in it is so expensive now. You are right about the way prices go up. 1 pound for ham becomes 1 pound twenty over night. I did a big shop for delivery from Asda. Swapped most things for own brand items. Still expensive but will last over 40 days and 40 nights which seems fair and biblical. But it is getting ridiculous and has been for some time. Thanks for the review. £4.50 for a small meal? I think an own brand pizza is back on the menu.
@BaldFoodieGuy Жыл бұрын
Absolutely!!
@uweinhamburg Жыл бұрын
Come on - the amount of cheese in this is so small, that they didn't even have to give the percentage in the list of ingredients! So it is perhaps 5% of 400 grams = 8 grams of industry cheese the producer buys in 10 kilo blocks! Even if the price of cheese would triple, in the end product that would be just pence for a bowl.

I walked passed these today in Tesco but the price put me off. We have a 'no profit' community shop in our local centre and they regularly stock well in date Old El Paso products so will keep a lookout. Me and the wife love the Old El Paso garlic and chilli rice meal kits and the shop knocks em out at anything from £1.50 to £2 each. Purchased five the other week for a snip. Great cheap and tasty meal. Slap a few peppers, onions and any meat and you have a really tasty quick meal for two. Hope the diet and sobriety is going well ❤

When a simple ready to heat and eat meal from Tesco becomes something, many people will have to think twice before putting it in the shopping basket, something went really wrong. Things are very wrong when people start to put such items no longer in their shopping basket but directly in their own bag!!!
