I noticed she ddnt want to look @ Ellen after she asked about where she was from and then acted surprised @ the answer. Like East Asians don't settle in places in the U.S. aside from California & New York City. Instead, she chose to keep her gaze on her costar bc you could tell he brought her comfort and calmness.

I'm not Asian but I'm in love with the movie! The movie isn't just limited to the people it centers and can be enjoyed by anyone. When I told one of my friends (who isn't Asian) that I was planning to see the movie, they were like "Ummmm why?" And surprisingly I got the same response when I told my other friend (who *is* asian). This movie isn't limited to anyone. Go see it!!!

EXACTLY! I hate when they ask such a vague dumb question and then proceed to ARGUE with you about YOUR life when you give them not the answer they wanted to hear but the answer YOU felt was most appropriate. One time a moron dared to say that I was "hiding" or "trying to deny" that I'm Chinese. Another time an idiot was telling ME what I should say - he said if my family is Chinese then I should say I'm Chinese. The audacity of these stupid ignorant uncultured assholes...
@pavhilafliert5 жыл бұрын
Yeah!! I really really hate that 'Where are you from?" question. So usually I answered: I was born on earth like you! I ve been living in 4 different continents, in many different cities in each! I have one of European citizenship, but my heart goes everywhere every places and countries I had lived before. People... really, get over that typical question. That is so f*ck*ng stupid and ignorant. Even with any certain ethnical background I was born with, I ve been growing and had influenced by so many cultures I lived in. Humanity, that s the only race I belong! And nowadays there are more and more people like me.
@Msztyllachara5 жыл бұрын
well usually when people ask your ethnicity, they're already know where you're from. If people suddenly ask a Malaysian their ethnicity, you will be surprised to know that they're chinese-indian, ibanese or even kadazanese but not a malay, which lead again to the question, where you are from?

Call me petty but I love how Constance answered that where are you from question. Ellen, maybe we should start asking white people where they’re from since the only true Americans are Native Americans.
@opentrunk5 жыл бұрын
The thing is, people DO ask that of white Americans and most of us do not get offended or frustrated by it because we understand that they are simply asking a question similar to what town do you live in. So we answer things like Norway, Germany, Russia, England, France, Poland, etc etc etc and then they say oh really, I wouldn't have guessed that, and then we laugh or say where are YOU from and on and on and on, but nobody gets all butthurt over it. You know, if you try really hard, it's possible to get offended by just about anything someone says to you.
@showtime23995 жыл бұрын
Telling people you are American really doesn't give too much information about yourself and that is why people will ask you where is your family from or what is your origin. You need to be more specific if you are Italian American, Greek American, Irish American, Chinese American, Korean America, Nigerian American... So it's best to tell people you are American and your family is Chinese. Nothing wrong with people asking about your origin. I don't understand why Asian people get so offended when people ask about their origin. When I get to know friends I always ask them where is their family from and they have no problem telling me they are Italians. So Asian people need to chill out.
@hikingbird425 жыл бұрын
The irony in thinking that because a person has white skin does not mean they don't come from different cultures. If you think white people only ask coloured people where they are from you are sorely mistaken.
@showtime23995 жыл бұрын
And it's the fact that basically all Americans are originated from other countries except for the Native American Indians. So telling people you are American when you are clearly not American Native Indian would require you to give more information in order for people to have a better understanding of your family background. Usually the first answer would be I was born and raised in Seattle, USA. The second answer would be my family is Italian so we are Italian Americans.
@KK-el1bs5 жыл бұрын
You are being unfair. That was a genuine question. I do ask my white colleagues where are they from the first time we met. There is nothing wrong about that. Not everything has to be put into politically correct context, it is immature and annoying, just be genuine.

David James We don't exist lol Nah am kidding, am living in Canada here, people here have been so kind and welcomed me with open arms. I guess, Irrespective of any race, there are people who just do not get along with other races, maybe because of their personal experience or maybe because that is how they are raised. I believe that we as individuals need to just do our part, initiate a conversation and mix up. When I came in Canada I had a hard time mixing up with Vietnamese people cause they didn't use to be very responsive in what I am saying or something it would look socially rude for them to just completely ignore my opinion. Now, after some months of spending more time with anpther Vietnamese friend that I have now, I have understood that that is just a reflection of her culture, they take some time to open up and get comfortable with other communities and then the grt along well. All it takes is a bit of time and effort. No one is racist its just our own bad experiences that make us shy away from connecting with someone. Its important to not judge an entire community just by measuring the actins of an individual.. Love and peace. :)

Ellen does it AGAIN, asking the Asians "Where r you from?" then acts surprise when Constance says "Richmond Virginia". smh

This.

Like ellen meant to ask where is she originally from , where was she born ... cus she stated that she been in richmond virginia for eight yrs
@tricialee87485 жыл бұрын
constance is originally from richmond, virgina. she's been out in LA/Hollywood for 8 years. She is American, that's the point.
@szvqorwnpstahskypfwmp98215 жыл бұрын
I think Ellen was hoping Constance would say where her family and ancestors were originally from cause many people in the U.S still have tendency to think Asians living in the U.S are "foreigners" even though they were born and raised in the U.S like Constance. I guess is because Asians are the late comers to U.S compare to other people like the whites, blacks, hispanics and so on.

I am so happy I watched the movie today. To see a cast that looks similar to you on the big screen. It’s been a while since I have seen a full asian cast. I think the last movie I can remember was the Joy Luck Club. Brilliant!
