This thing is a Mola Mola or Giant Ocean Sunfish. Completely passive. They come up to the surface to sunbathe after swimming in deeper, colder water and for birds to remove their parasites. Very chill fish.

It's a sunfish or mola-mola! In the video it's laying on it's side at the top of the water so the birds passing by will eat the parasites off it's skin. Sunfish are really slow so parasites tend to latch on to them, and as you can see they don't have anything they can scratch with. So they rely on the seabirds to pluck the parasites off it's skin :) (Edit) I forgot to mention that they come up to the surface to sunbathe as well! Sunfish rely on the sun to regulate their temperature :D Sunfish can also hang around bunches of kelp to attract cleaner fish . The cleaner fish (as the name suggests) eats the parasites off the sunfish, essentially cleaning it!

For those who don't know that's called a flapfish. Flapfish are living fossils meaning they existed way back before the dinosaurs. These are incredibly rare to find cause they live in extremely deep sea trenches. These are very aggressive and are known to have extremely powerful bite force. This one seems like it's dying as it is already slow and they're usually not found near the surface. Interestingly, it is not an actual fish, but a mammal, similarly to whales and dolphins. This one is a female, the male are incredibly tiny, almost 1 millimeter in size. The male attaches to the bottom side of the flapfish where it burrows it and becomes a tumor like appendage as it gives the female its sperm. During mating season, the female migrates to the polar ice caps region where it lays it eggs on the side of free floating icebergs where the eggs are protected from predators. This is why fishermen in Greenland can find fisheggs neatly lined on the surface of icebergs. It only lays once and afterwards it dies. The oldest flapfish was found to be over 200 years old. Marine biologists are able to determine its age by the number of grooves in its tongue. It's main diet is deep sea octopus and squids. In the deep, it has bioluminescent spots which it uses to attract prey similar to an angler fish. However, while most anglerfish bioluminescence creates a blue tinge, the flapfish creates a rainbow color that is known to attract a diversity of different fish.

They have little control other than some minor wiggling. Some say they must just push water out of their mouths for direction (?????). It just continually folds in on itself, so the freaking cells are being made, this piece of floating garbage just doesn't put them where they need to fucking go. So they don't have swim bladders. You know, the one thing that every fish has to make sure it doesn't just sink to the bottom of the ocean when they stop moving and can stay the right side up. This creature. Seals have been seen playing with their fins like frisbees. Probably the most useful thing to ever come from them. Great question. BECAUSE THIS THING IS SO WORTHLESS IT DOESNT REALIZE IT SHOULD NOT EXIST. IT IS SO UNAWARE OF LITERALLY FUCKING EVERYTHING THAT IT DOESNT REALIZE THAT IT'S DOING MAYBE THE WORST FUCKING JOB OF BEING A FISH, OR DEBATABLY THE WORST JOB OF BEING A CLUSTER OF CELLS THAN ANY OTHER CLUSTER OF CELLS. SO WHAT DOES IT DO? IT LAYS THE MOST EGGS OUT OF EVERYTHING. Besides some bugs, there are some ants and stuff that'll lay more. IT WILL LAY 300 MILLION EGGS AT ONE TIME. 300,000,000. IT SURVIVES BECAUSE IT WOULD BE STATISTICALLY IMPROBABLE, DARE I SAY IMPOSSIBLE, THAT THERE WOULDNT BE AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE 300,000,000 (that is EACH time they lay eggs) LEFT SURVIVING AT THE END OF THE DAY. And this concludes why I hate the fuck out of this complete failure of evolution, the Ocean Sunfish. If I ever see one, I will throw rocks at it.
