Dream Theater has many songs over 10 minutes long. They make them that length to tell their story not only lyrically, but instrumentally as well. I can sit for hours listening to their music with the lights out. I seen someone else recommend Haken. They would definitely be a great choice as they're another band that got their influence from Dream Theater. They're also one of my favorite bands as well.
@CrazyAwesomeАй бұрын
They really do!!! Lots of them I've played on this channel are pretty lengthy tracks, but for great reason. And I've never heard them before so that would be great to do a reaction to!!!! 🤘🎸💙

They always make me wonder how do you even compose something so great and complex, but still comprehensible and enjoyable

I would strongly recommend lowering your mic's gain and preventing for clipping when "excesses of enthusiasm abound".
@CrazyAwesomeАй бұрын
Thanks so much! So thanks for the suggestion, and about the mic.... I believe the gain is already at the lowest 🤣 it's just not the best quality mic lol and I'm planning on ordering another mic and a lot of new things. A new computer, new camera, new headphones, new mic.... all for my KZbin channel. All which costs a lot of money. Which is fine and I can afford that... but just saving a little more & waiting till the holiday season to make that purchase (hoping it'll be cheaper) ya know?
@jhawkkw87Ай бұрын
The song is actually exactly 24 minutes long (to symbolize 24 hours in a day in order to complete a full cycle), but this version cuts out the ~4 minute opening performed exclusively by the keyboardist on a fingerboard and steel lap guitar. Octavarium is a wonderful song, but it gets even better if you dig into the meaning. Music theory enthusiasts could probably write and entire college thesis on this song because of how much depth it has. Great job on this one. Look forward to what you try to tackle next. If you want something really heavy, give The Glass Prison or In The Name of God a try. If you want something melodic, give The Ministry of Lost Souls or Breaking All Illusions a go. I think you would really like The Count of Tuscany as well.
@CrazyAwesomeАй бұрын
Goodness, Dream Theater are just on another level. That's so smart to have this song be exactly 24 minutes. Thanks for the suggestions and LOTS of people have asked for "The Count Of Tuscany" so that one will probably be next up!

That was insanely good, especially for a first try! The timing of you saying it’s not that bad for Dream Theater couldn’t have been more poetic though. I don’t know if anyone has said, but the band just dusted this one off after nearly 20 years and are playing it again on their current tour too.

If you liked Octavarium, you should listen to some of the songs that inspired it: Supper's Ready by Genesis, Close to the Edge by Yes, and Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull On the other hand, Crystallised by Haken is a newer song that was inspired by Dream Theater, especially this song. These are all long songs that, like you said, justify their length.

Hi! Ham! I've been really enjoying your Dream Theater reactions, keep it up! I'm really itching to recommend more prog songs, but for now just two bands, four tracks. Haken (rhymes with bacon) is my favorite band. They are epic, melodic, sometimes quirky and really diverse. Some say they've now taken the progressive metal torch from Dream Theater. I recommend the songs Falling Back To Earth and The Architect. The Aristocrats are an instrumental trio that, I think, is pretty underrated. They often play like they are soloing the whole song, yet it's really well composed and doesn't feel like too much. Their songs have a story to them that is often identifiable, despite being instrumental. Check out Furtive Jack and Desert Tornado by them. If these song aren't (all) on Rocksmith, please do them on KZbin anyway. You'll probably see me dropping more suggestions, until then, bye!
@CrazyAwesomeАй бұрын

as you started with a 20 minute track this time you should try to play Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick as a warmup sometime. It's a classic prog rock track but the whole thing is almost 45 minutes long. Pluss it's hilarious, they wrote it because several critics talked about their previous album "Aqualung" (another classic) as a concept record, something they did NOT agree with.
@martin.m4306Ай бұрын
and as it's referenced in Octavarium you should check out Genesis's track called Supper's ready. great Playing btw!! 🙂

@aghayden20 күн бұрын
in the presence of enemies is the most underrated of them. I personally think it's their best epic. The Count of Tuscany has some amazing sections but weak ones as well, itpoe is stong throughout with some 10/10 instrumental sections

holy shit dude. 90% is sick. if I may recommend a shorter dream theater song, The Dark Eternal Night is a jazzy metal masterpiece. and incidentally, this version of octavarium cut out a pink floyd-y synth intro. for sensible reasons-- no guitar! but did want to point that out.
