Hello, my dear viewers and subscribes !
This video is most likely the last video from the cycle of stories about the 7-cylinder UMS Evolution UT7-35 radial engine.
Today we'll partially disassemble the engine and we'll see how it designed, what technological solutions are used in it. Actually, the engine is "cool", from the point of view of appearance, and of coarse, from the point of view of a collector, and that fact, that it actually works, and quite well, is generally fantastic. But today we are looking at the engine "from the inside", I'm interested to know what degree of wear it has after dozens of hours collected during break - in time and during normal, tuning operation, how clean it is inside.
In this video, you will also learn (or hear, for that matter) the difference in its sound signatures, with and without an existing exhaust system, when the exhaust collector ring manifold is disconnected.
If you really heard the difference (and I did), then it would be great to know about it in the comments to this video.

10:24 it sounds 250% better with the collector ring attached. Deeper, meatier tone. Sounds like it's 3x its displacement.

Thank you for your comment ! Exactly, absolutely agree with you ! Engine sounds several time better, when collector ring attached. I think, that collector ring serves a small resonator, adding very nice bassier notes.

This engine is really very nice and easy to operate, but there is a lot of other complications, so I think, that this engine from one side, being practical, but it will request a lot of your attention during operation, especially, on the filed. It looks like a fine piece of engineering! I like how it's crankcase scavenged. No oiling issues down there. The Saito radials, particularly the gas ones, are relying solely on blowby to get oil down there and that causes master rod failures in them because there just isn't enough oil misting past the rings. Saito themselves even say you should stuff some fresh oil down the vent pipe from time to time. The crankcase scavenging on this UMS 7-35 won't help power any as there isn't any real pressure being built down there, but it should be a boon for reliability and longevity. I would like to see it tested on a 15N 9Castor 9Synthetic fuel blend. I might just be getting one myself if I can find one I can afford, and I run Omega 15%, which is 15 nitro 9 castor 9 synthetic. Was that 1100rpm idle being done without external glow heat?

Thanks for the interesting comment! I also liked the design of the crankshaft and fuel mixture distributor. Unfortunately, even this design does not exclude the flooding of the lower cylinders with oil and fuel mixture, and it has to be regularly drained before starting the engine, if it has stood for at least a day. I keep thinking about reworking my Saito FG 60R3, in the area of the fuel distributor, it could be much simpler in design, "a-la" UMS Evolution UT7-35. Concerning idle speed without glow support - it was approx 1550 -1600 RPM, it could be lower, but glow support will be needed, to keep so low and stable idle. Engine needs extended break-in time, according to my experience, well over 3-4 hours. Thank you and have a nice day !

Bom dia e obrigado pelo comentário! Muito feliz em ouvir de você! Na minha opinião, para um motor de 35 cc, o design é bastante adequado. Definitivamente, este não é um motor esportivo e você não deve esperar grandes resultados dele. É perfeito para réplicas de modelos - biplanos e veículos lentos da primeira metade do século XX. Quanto ao design dos radiais Saito, acho que a divisão de design da empresa deve considerar a instalação de rolamentos de agulha de alta qualidade na extremidade inferior da biela em seus motores radiais e redesenhar o distribuidor de combustível para que os proprietários não precisem fazer isso próprias modificações dispendiosas.
