Kudos to Bella!! 👏🏼👏🏼 National Honor Society is a great achievement and should be a goal, especially if planning to attend college. Most high school have plenty of volunteer opportunities that all kids can participate in. Glad you found a place Bella wanted to volunteer at…always important to give back!

a hybrid program where she is with her typical peers for part of the day and in the specialized class for 'academics' and therapies is appropriate for many kids Public schools should be providing that. For example, she would join the typical class for art and music, maybe social studies, or science. You do give her the 'typical peer' experience with after school activities so that helps. Some families don't do that.

@@alyssar7477i have worked with kids with 'severe' autism (non verbal, well behind in skills) that do well with be included in an appropriate typical class. One girl for example, spent 2 half days in a typical preschool. With the shadow, she was able to follow the routines and participate in circle time, music, and art. it really helped her social skills.

Here in Seattle Washington we have Treehouse that helps with foster children.. I have volunteered numerous times over the past 20 years and 10 years ago my mother took emergency foster placement of my 5 grandkids (I was recovering from a stroke and couldn’t care for them at the time) I helped her connect with treehouse and she took in the kids with just the clothes on their backs.. I am so glad there’s places like that which are available

Loved hearing that in your community there's an organization who donates clothing items to the 'closet' Bella volunteered at for foster kids in the system. So needed. I work for a large grocer and damaged/out of date foods go to the nearest 'soup kitchen', for lack of a better term. The date on a product is the 'sell by', not the 'eat by' date so it is not like we are donating bad/spoiled foods and obviously that food gets used same day or maybe next day...so it's a win all around.

I have two boys on the spectrum, so it's neat to see them wanting to help with kids on the spectrum. " Where I live, they don't offer much for kids with autism. I'm praying everything with the transition to a different school and different teacher will go smoothly for Aurora ' she's such a amazing little girl and is learning so much it's so neat to see her progress. My sister’s son did exceptionally well in a place called Montessori school. I’m not sure if Arizona has those but they are more conducive to smaller groups and one on one. Plus they work at their own pace. See if they have that available.

I didn’t know what the place was for when I went to college. But I remember volunteering at a shelter and then helping out with sorting of the clothes. It just made me think back and see that I was actually helping out the kids from foster care and women from the shelter. We also helped out with the kitchen and made food. All the kids were so happy to eat and get goodie bags we made for them.
