Yes I've always washed them after every use, back in the day I would 'mister sheen' my reels 😅 not so obsessed these days

I have 2 each of the older 4500B and 6500B series. They're my go to for surf fishing if I'm chucking bait. Absolutely worth every penny I spent for them. Shimano really hit the nail on the head when they came out with the baitrunner series of reels. Took a 9 foot shark from the surf with one of the 6500's. Thing never broke a sweat. If there's one reel I would recommend to someone who's looking to chuck bait from the surf, it would definitely be a shimano baitrunner. Absolute workhorse reels.

Can I use a 20 pound braid on the baitrunner 6000D? Or would you recommend a 4000? I’d be chucking 1 ounce panther Martin bass spinners. Would the 4000 be the best all rounder if I’m in freshwater chucking 1/4 ounce dressed trout meps spinners?

@@louiss.w1944 Technically, yes. You can absolutely use 20 lb braid on the 6000, but honestly, that seems a bit overkill to me. Given the weight of the lures you're throwing, it sounds to me like the 6000 would be a little unbalanced on the rods you're using. The 4000 series sounds like it's more than adequate for the type of fishing you'd be doing.

I just bought 3 4500’s for carp fishing. A buddy of mine uses it for carping and said that they are indestructible lol, they look amazing too

Quick heads up, I have baitrunners are up to 30 year old so I love them. . . BUT do not buy any of the new xtb series. . . . Bought both the 5500 and a 1400 big baitrunner. . . both broke big time after very minimal use. I'm talking bearing and gear collapse and a rotor nut broke in half and fell out during use. Shimano Australia REFUSED both claims. . .other brands build a much better quality reel for the money.. .

What size lures you using? What size braid or line? What you fishing after? How long is your rod? I’m debating getting a 4000 or 6000 for surf fishing and I need help😅😃. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

@@louiss.w1944 I'd probly go with a 6000 size reel on a premium rod(10 or 11ft, Lamiglas or ODM or other premium rod). The D series Shimano bait runners are great but also look into the Shimano Thunnus bait runners -they're slightly better quality and lighter than the D series. And go with 30 pound braid. The combination should handle most surfcasting conditions.

@@jeff3971 would a 4000 work with 20 pound braid tho? I have rods from 7 1/2 ft to 11 1/2 ft. I’m tryna catch bass off shore and I think I gotta get it out at least 50 yards. I’ll be casting 1 ounce Martin bass dressed spinning lures if getting into specifics helps. Thanks for any insight 😀

Never used anything else in 3 decades of fishing. 4500B, 6500B, XTEA 10000, Big Baitrunner LC...True workhorses, will last a lifetime.

I think u are missing the original Thunnus from your collection.. compared to the thunnus ci4+ VS original thunnus, the original is built like a tank. Stronger in every aspect internally.... i have a 4000c4i and a 1st gen Thunnus 16000f(Beast)😁

If I’m surf fishing can I get away with a 4000? I’d be chucking an ounce or lil more of dressed meps bass spinners. Would be nice to cast at least 50/80 yards or more. I’m a newb help

I think there may be better options out there for casting.... it's quite a heavy reel also. It is good as a multirole reel though as it has the baitrunner option for baitfishing. I'd be tempted to go a more traditional spin reel unless you need the baitrunner feature also

@@louiss.w1944 yeah 20lb braid would be fine, I really love NASCI models, not sure if there is a large enough model for what your looking for but I use them for lure casting and love them, super smooth, good casting and not too heavy. I have a couple of videos on them on my channel 👍 perhaps a 5000 size in them may work?... I'd suggest taking the rod you plan to use down to your local tackle store and have a play with reels, put them on and see what feels comfortable enough whole being able to carry enough heavier braid for you 🙂

I have the older versions..One brand new one still in the 📦...I have the 6500..two 4500's and one 3500...my 6500 is 50 braid on a 20/40 Travela rod...One 4500 is braided 30lb on a 15/30 crowder rod and the 3500 is 20lb braid on a 12/20 travela rod ...never liked the newer version of shimano baitrunners..

Yeah I think the older ones look so amazing, just classic design. The new ones definetly look more modern, but like everything , they don't make them like they used to 😉. @@tazmax72 I've always heard good things about the old daiwa reels, never had one myself, some of their new stuff looks alright too. I'm a sucker for Shimano though 😉 the only other reels I had when I was younger was a couple of tough as nails RYOBI reels, went through hell and back before the finally carked it, but by then it switched over to Shimano and stayed with them since. It's really great there is so much choice these days
