The reason your hose keeps popping out is because you probably forgot to install the little blue horse-shoe shaped retainer clip into the gap in the fitting. Also, you don't have to turn it off to move the motors. In the prepare menu, you can use "Disable Steppers" to unlock the motors so you can move by hand.

You MUST heat the bed before leveling. What's level whilst cold will not be level when headed due to thermal expansion.
@ryanadams56686 жыл бұрын
Pete , you’re right, there is a minor thermal expansion when at temperature. Whilst it hasn’t caused a big change in my experience with the Ender 3’s bed and hot end, it might work better for others. If you do, I’d let the hot end and bed heat soak for at least a good 15-20 minutes to stabilize any expansion.
@pete33006 жыл бұрын
Ryan Adams. As an experiment I leveled the bed, going around several times then started a print with a cold bed and cold nozzle. The result every time was failed bed adhesion and a failed print. Next I repeated the test by preheating the nozzle using the prepare menu selection. The result was slightly better adhesion but ultimately the same. Finally I preheated the the bed to 55 degrees and the the nozzle to printing temperature of the filament, waited until both temperatures had stabilized, leveled the bed again going around several times then commenced print. Each and every time I completed a print successful. I've several printers one of which has a warped bed, low spots, with the addition of a few quick passes of glue in those spots the method works extremely well. I'm sorry to say your comments on 20 minute waiting time for heat soak on a 3mm thick piece of aluminum is in correct and misleading. Once the bed bed has achieved a stable thermal temperature and is no longer heating the bed will not expanded any further until you add additional energy into it.

I am new to this but wanted to say something I feel pretty strongly about. Even with the steppers disabled, they turn into generators when moved. I learned this lesson at Texas Instruments with our stocker upper I/O ports. Back emf would kill delicate/unprotected circuit boards. I always disconnect my steppers before manual movement. Just watch the display when the machine is off and see it light up when you move an axis. Yeah I can hear it now from some of you -"That never happened to me!" Just a caution for those of you like me that don't have endless sums of money to put out for ruined parts. Just remember to put the connectors back in before starting up. (remember 3-x,y,z) - Rick

Excellent video, I was unaware of how to level the frame until your video. It's not something that is in the instructions as far as I could tell nor something covered in several other videos about the Enter 3. I just put some paper under one foot to stop the wobbling but will actually fix the issue when I get home today. Thanks again, you helped out a 3D printing newbie. Also your comment about 90% of failures being in the first layer is something else that I have not seen mentioned that has been spot on in my experience so far. I always hang around to make sure that first layer is down properly before leaving the room, saved me a lot of wasted time and material and is an important note for people exploring 3D printing for the first time.

Since the bed clearance with the tip is critical, I think it's best to use a machinist thickness gages to calibrate the distance of the tip to the bed which will give you a numerical value and from there you will have a reference number so it will be easy to go higher or lower if need be because the gauges are numbered accordingly.
@ShadowMystic72 жыл бұрын

Thanks. I watched your video and with a little futzing around I am now printing a dog. First time using a 3D printer. My bed is a little tweaked seems slightly dished in the center and high toward the rear left. I was able to split the difference. I work with wood (working) quite a bit so I would say to keep the business card loose initially and run around the corners. then fine tune it. I did take the magnetic bed off and examined the plate. I ran my hand along the bed and noticed some issues, so it was impossible to really dial in the bed leveling. I just got it close enough, which was adequate, but not great. Running the sample dog now. I also had a lot off issue with feeding the filament in? So I turned off the machine disconnect the tube and ran the filament through till it psssed through taking note of the path. I also checked to make sure it would fit through the tube. With the machine off I then ran the filament into the tube and got it started! The issue was with the machine on it would heat up the filament and make it impossible to feed it. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, but I’m a complete newbie 3D printer guy. Thanks for making the video, it gave me enough knowledge and confidence to print out the first DOG. I just hope I have enough of the sample whit filament that came with the machine.

When changing the supplied bed to a glass bed. you have to lower the bed... Using your information at around 4:00 minute mark you say to use "Find Home" to position the nozzel . My question is where would that point be in relation to the bed? The glass bed is thicker. This information would be helpful to have when changing springs as well. Right now my bed adjustment is at a point where the adjusting knobs actually will loosen on their own during prints. Knowing that the "home position" is at what point of the stop switch movement would be nice. IE: will the switch be completely flattened before stop is made OR will it be any point in between.
