The reason why there's an included stl for the resonance detector is because the Z axis of the detector is supposed to face upward, not to the front, as in this demonstration. Print the bracket.

So you don't have to leave the vibration sensor connected permanently?

No, it's only needed when doing the input shaping. I should mention that I mounted the sensor incorrectly in this video, and have since 3D printed a small mounting bracket (supplied by Creality) and redone it with the sensor in the correct orientation.
