I tend to rank the albums in the order of their release. All of Cream’s albums are great, even the Live albums.

I fully agree to your ranking and comments on the why. In some way the Blind Faith album also belongs into that picture frame. It has Clapton and Baker but also still that late 60's vibe to it. It is a very strong album and stands it ground against even Disraeli Gears. It is valid that you bring Jimi Hendrix into the context. There are a lot of videos now where all those musicians remember his arrival in London and they all tell the same story. Everyone went to the clubs where Hendrix was playing who was a complete unknown still - Clapton, Page, George Harrison, Pete Townshend were all sitting in the front row and all of them told how that completely changed everything for them. Especially Eric Clapton who was hailed as god at the time said that he felt like a schoolboy when he saw Hendrix. The "experience" challenged all of these guitar heroes to the next level. This happened around the time between Fresh Cream and Disraeli Gears and might explain the leap forward.

Thanks for the video, Adam. I fully agree with your ranking and precise, fair comments. I can't stand those snobs and dogmatics who despise Clapton. I think they mistake speed and testosterone with music, and above all I guess they're not in fact interested in music but in the defence of their ego. Music is just a pretext for them. They get me sick.

Thanks Ricard....yes, in so many ways less is more, and feel and context are so important as well. And for me there's much more to Clapton than just his guitar playing. I think he has his detractors mainly cos of the level of his success.....oh well, we can still enjoy it! :-)
