Donna, I've never met a crafter who hasn't, at one point, had a messy craft space. We are a community unto ourselves! We all get it. When the space finally is organized and the clutter is gone, the feeling one gets is almost magical. Crafters wear many hats and, at times, all at once! 💯 I just cleaned mine, which had taken over several rooms, in my upstairs, where there are 4 bedrooms and a junk room….i had the junk room and two bedrooms. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️Oh wait, plus my craft room downstairs, which is my bedroom. I usually craft in my kitchen though. Ahhhh. I still have a lot of stuff, but I have organized it, at least I know where everything is now, or almost everything. 😂

Yep, we all live there. Tidying my craft room seems like a constant process - I clean up some of it and get called away. I don't pick up from where I left, I do more craft then tidy some more -never having just one project on the go at once probably doesn't help in my case....but I do soooo many different crafts

I hear you girl. 2024 was a year I don't want to repeat. First I found that I had a couple of minor heart attacks, then still had breathing issues , it was asthma rearing it's ugly head. Now I have breast cancer. I've had no motivation to clean. Now I've had to reschedule tests at hospitals because MO got hit with ice and blizzard conditions. I hold on to my belief that God will give me the strength to face all of it alone, because my only family moved 6 hours away. He has never failed me!! Thanks for reminding me that I'm not the only one living in a mess. It makes me so embarrassed that I don't want visitors

My craft room became a storage room over the last two years. Sad life events and I've done nothing and things would get thrown in that room. I lost my young adult son this last summer and I'm ready now to get things clear out and functional. (Actually my whole apartment is in this condition. Yikes!) I totally understand what you’re going through. The Only touch it once doesn’t work for me because it’s not just one room that is a mess. I’ve been making progress by putting things that need to go elsewhere in like boxes and putting as near to where they belong as I can. It’s a process! You’ve got good bones of organization. No embarrassment in the DIY community! I significantly downsized, don't fit into my new space, was bedridden for 4 years, and then, I inherited stuff from two families. My whole house looks that bad, and I am finally well enough to try to figure out how to fit into this house. I cleared one corner of the living room and am looking at the next corner to tackle. I don't use my craft room in the winter because we attempt to keep heating costs down by keeping thermostats down. I'll whiz in, grab what I need, craft elsewhere and then toss it back. When it's warmer, I'll need to go in and reorganize, so I feel ya!

Oh ya, heating has become so expensive!! Thankfully we've had a very mild winter, so heating hasn't been an issue. Although, I do use a little space heater as needed. We have to keep our basement warm, our oldest has her room down there. Thanks for sharing 💖🤗

Got a tip from another KZbinr because I don't remember where I have moved things to. She labels things quickly with post-it notes when she moves things. When she is done organizing, she makes pretty labels for all the containers/drawers, etc. We are moving and I am thinking I will make a WHERE-IS-IT notebook as I organize my stuff in the new house. And make a separate one for the craft room. I do not want to spend hours looking for something when it would be so much easier to just look up where I put it. Thought it was a good idea, hope I follow through. And hope you find her tip useful. 😊

Glad I found you. My room is in bad shape. I got all new furniture, drawers and a new chair. Started getting it organized and had to have back surgery. I had Kyphoplasty done on L3, L4 and L5. When I woke up in recovery my leg was in great pain. I went 2 weeks in horrible pain. Went to the hospital by ambulance and found out that the cement that was put in one of the disks had ruptured and was into my spinal column. Had to have surgery to remove it. I will be recovering for 6 to 8 weeks. Then I will get help with my room.

I finally have all of my craft areas together and here is my hard won pearl of insight : it might be mixed media but it shouldn’t come altogether until you start creating. Organise categories, then categories within categories. Everything will have a logical place and it will be easy to put things away where they belong. Doesn’t have to be expensive either - I just use recycled tins, jars, takeaway trays etc. I do label and find that great for making it clear in my mind just what I have in my hand and accurately categorise it.

Mine is worse. I feel for you. It's overflowed to the other rooms & the entire basement & garage. It's overwhelming. I closed my booth a year ago because it got to hard on my back, knees, & heart. All of the different seasons of inventory are stacked everywhere down there. It's horrible

I sooo have to have everything close by and visible when I’m crafting. So. Maybe some boxes or bins for your most used. Will also give you an extra storage level. , Just trying that now. Don't beat yourself up over a messy craft room. I can't tell you how many times I have had to cleanout and organize my craft room. When I am in a crafting frenzy, I end up not returning my craft supplies to their appropriate place and the next thing I know, I have a hot mess.

Yes up until up until 2021 I had more stuff than this I had stuff left over from my grandmother's and stuff I bought my kids stuff and everything well in 2021 my cars were stolen had to put my businesses in on hold I lost my house I couldn't get many any help maybe two trips to go there and get a few things in a pickup so then I had to start all over again

Only glanced at 2 comments so far & I suspect most will echo the same: you’re definitely not alone in having an unorganized or messy craft room. In October plans I had made for focused crafting fell apart when I had to deal with a very frustrating computer issue & out of that I made a series of foolish mistakes in an attempt to shift my craft plan (I wanted my cake & be able to eat it too). One of my biggest mistakes: I brought out way, way too many of my craft supplies to our living room & well, long story short, 3+ months later, I am still trying to fix the mess of my own doing 🫣😳. With needing to do regular daily life / work / other responsibilities, it is difficult to find time & sometimes motivation due to feeling overwhelmed. But I won’t give up & I sense that you’ve made a similar decision for yourself, so I think it’s important to not let go of that, even when it’s taking longer than wanted. Personally I like to organize based on what I want to have easy access to & things I use for most craft projects & try to keep similar supplies together (I refer to as zones). However I have learned especially lately, it can be very freeing if & when I let go of how I wanted it to be & accepted a different way or spot to keep things & discovered, sometimes, the new way or place is actually better. Also, I have 4 carts - 2 larger ones (Michaels) & 2 smaller (Canadian Tire) & they’re great for offering storage, easy or quick access & being able to move out of the way. Donna, thank you for sharing & I hope you feel better than when you started this video. Whatever you do, I hope it helps to refresh your joy of crafting! 🙂 PS: Your cat is gorgeous & we also have an orange tabby cat who, no surprise, loves boxes (& steals my craft chair when I’m not looking)
