With the popularity in Agile, the Burndown chart is something that leaders are looking for from the PM's for all kinds of project irrespective of the project is Agile or not. So when you are asked to Produce burndown for non-agile projects or non-sprint related items (ex: just for testing activity etc.) you can use excel to create burndown chart.

Very useful. One query what is the difference between Kanban board and burndown chart
@niksprojects
@niksprojects 2 жыл бұрын
Kanban board is where you can see all task details and in which queue it is currently- To-do column vs In-Progress or Done column. Burndown chart show the progress quantitatively , meaning you will know out of let’s say 50 tasks how are we progressing on the completeness on track vs off track . I made a video about how to create a burn down chart in excel on this channel and I have explained it in that video as well

Only works for line chart if your first column is dates. If you have, say week numbers., then excel picks arbitrary numbers for the x-axis and you need to edit the chart to beat it into submission to use the data it is supposed to.

Hi! Great video, I have a question however. Let's say that the team plans to do more tasks in a following week. Does it make any sense? In your example, we have a downward trend which is not always the case.
@niksprojects
@niksprojects 2 жыл бұрын
If the tasks are not done the the line will be flat and once the tasks are done then the actual line will come down.

It's was really nice way to create burndown chat in Excel and great way to explain.. thumps up.. - Can we connect on LinkedIn.. and do you provide Project Management Training as well?
@niksprojects
@niksprojects 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and for watching! Glad it helped, I dont do project management training as I am full time working on my day job :-) I create these videos as a help to other fellow PM's. I started creating a course on MS Project training which I thought could sell as online course, but I wasn't sure how many would be interested so I put that on hold. If you can tell me what you are looking for, may be I can create some KZbin video around those answering those questions.

Hi Niks, as always a magnificent explanation. Please reply my question ( I have already asked but you didn't reply) - I am into Software Testing field with 10+ years (including 1 year in Test Leading). How can I switch my domain by doing CSM & PMP? Thank you so much in advance ! :)
@niksprojects
@niksprojects 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response, I thought I replied earlier. Anyway I would say certification comes in handy when you are in the job market. It helps yo filter out others from the competition those who don't have the certification, sometimes PMP is a must for some jobs and by having certification you will have that criteria satisfied. Once you get your job interview the try to relate your testing lead experience as general overall project management. Example for testing you still have to plan to come up with test plan, you still have to manage testing resources so thats your resource management plan so on and so forth. You can switch to full PROJECT Management within your current organization and the. Show that experience when applying outside. Or be confident and apply outside and make the switch in the new organization. If you are still not comfortable may be start as project coordinator or PM assisting a program manager so you can learn from the program manager before taking full PM role

you update the quantity from the date the scope is added, so the grey baseline will get adjusted accordingly. Eventually even with the new scope the tasks has to come down to zero at the end.
